"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Two questions: first, eggs. Should I go ahead and set today's eggs with the rest? Or do they need to rest a bit? Or does it actually matter...?

Second, raspberries. I bought two varieties, a red and a gold. We want to grow them up one of our crosses on site, creating a cool teaching visual (fruit of the vine, crown of thorns, etc.). But the kind I have are everbearing and their recommended pruning is to "mow down" every fall. So should I save my vine-training efforts for a different variety? I also have a dewberry, which might work better...

Good luck with raspberries in our climate -- we've tried several varieties but lost them every time - the heat & humidity just eat them up & cause all kinds of diseases. Dewberries - they're like weeds, easy maintenance! Muscadines would work well also.

I'd go ahead & set the eggs w/the rest.

Thanks Terri! I have read that they prefer more temperate climates. The ones I bought are supposed to have zone 10 hardiness, so :fl. I don't like raspberries, so I don't really know why I chose them. I may end up getting a few more dewberries. We also picked up blueberries and two hanging strawberry systems.

Here's mine. :D
I'm totally obsessed with them.

Thank you. He is beautiful, they all are!!

for a first season fruit is not going to yield really anything...planted this year and the following year will have many more...

The varieties we chose are guaranteed to have a crop on first year growth.

Sorry, I'm not meaning to be argumentative. But this is good, because it makes me feel like I actually thought something all the way through and covered my bases.

I'll take pictures of my packaging later. :)

i know your not trying to be argumentative...they will yield something...just not as much as the following year...maybe i worded that wrong...i type fast and dont really go back and read...lol....so it just comes out unfiltered...my bad

Right, that makes sense. We're not aiming for cash crop yields, just some little nibbly surprises for the campers. :)
