Thrilled for you!!!!! It gives you a chance to see which kinds your want to have more of. The one's you don't care for, sell or give away. Someone always wants them. Craigs List will help you. Have fun and keep us informed on how they are doing. We like pics. Had to add that the snow that came and went is back and sticking. Expecting 4". How is it down you way? This is around Shreveport area.

Morning all. I was up all night with a sick baby. Well, he's not a baby anymore. Almost three. Anyway, since I was awake I washed up and had a quick candle. There's development in all 18 eggs!

One SS egg might have been a blood ring, I wasn't sure. And I think I accidentally got an australorp egg in there as an SS egg. They're the same size and color, but the SS eggs are papery feeling, like duck eggs. The australorp egg is slick and shiny. So if it hatches black, I guess I'll know.

How do y'all mark chicks? I was thinking of a washable (crayola) marker dot on the head. Of course if the mixed eggs hatch black, then I'll be in good shape.

I just want to mark that possible australorp egg, so I don't sell the chick.

Edit to add: I think my bator is running a little cool. Thermometer on top of eggs is reading 102, but thermometer on the turner reads 96. The eggs didn't feel warm enough. I haven't decided if I'm going to give it a nudge or not. I'd hate to have the temp spike and ruin the hatch. So far I'm doing much better than last time.

zip tie...just leave with alot of room the bird will grow into it...and when it does cut it off and put another one on...im still not sure what im going to do when all the birds go into season...as i have heard bad things about using the spiral leg bands coming off and such...and working with the small ones is kindof hard to get off the bird...i do think the zip tie would be the best choice...with the spiral you need two people with zips you can do it your self.....keep note on temp difference and what you have done differently from the bator...and try both ways again...if you get the same results with both...then stick to the one that gives you better results...who knows you might get a better hatch from the first approach at a different time of the season as well...small stuff to take into consideration..

Just wanted to add a few more chick pics. All of these are still unknown breeds to us. There are quite a few chicks with similar patterns but look slightly different.

LOVE those first two gray chicks! :love

Sorry I'm no good with chick identification. What breeds were possible with them?

well started to get the egg box ready...and this is what it looks like....this thing is going to be like a tank aint nothing getting inside to these eggs....lol

Well this sure is nasty muddy weather here! But I'm sure it's helping the cabbages in the garden get bigger. I have "MegaTon" seed planted. They are doing good. But have not achieved MEGA status yet. We have fertilized a couple times lately with Alaska fish fertilizer and now they all have the compost that just got thoroughly rained in. I don't know why I like getting them so big. I guess it's just fun.

Got some cute pics of the chicks that would cooperate.

The rest of the chicks have yet to be in the mood to hold still, lol.

Hope everyone stays warm! A warm bowl of soup and socks on my feet always help keep me moving.

Wish I was at your place! I've spent the past 20 hours as designated vomit catcher for my baby boy. Cartoons on the couch lost their appeal somewhere along the way...

And now I'm not feeling so hot either. Nothing but toast and coffee all day. Finally tried a bowl of cereal... Big mistake. Drank the emetrol and ate a plain tortilla. :fl
