"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Howdy Folks,

Just finished hatching for a few weeks and had a good hatch rate on my Millie's 6/6 however my coronation Sussex .. 2/10 and both ended up being pullets according to feather sexing!! Does anyone in our state sell Coronation or Light Splits eggs?

Joe

Thanks Cody! they will hide illness. I know others that lost young birds last night. I went out to check on my 7 week olds a few were screaming in distress so I picked them up their feet were cold and they were shivering. So I picked them up and back to broder with heat. All survived, Wet ground, and cold weather kills young chicks. He might have had an issue before but the weather didn't help. Glad if it had to be one it was a spare cockeral. Hope to be back full time in a week. Pam
Yea. If one had to go I'm glad it was a cockerel. That makes 11 cockerels and 11 pullets left. I need some more of the 2013 strain

I still have the Legbar roo. You can definitely tell he is a different breed by the way he acts. A little more flighty and is becoming bossy. He's starting to pick on the smallest Biele that was an assist and is testing the bigger ones. Someone here in town wants him so he'll be going at some point.

Glad to here you sold him. I will fix you up when things are back to normal. well a new kind of normal. Thanks for waiting till things calm down. I notice one legbar in every batch is a mean pecker out of every batch. My last one had a poulet that would peck the others eyes at 1 to 5 days old. This eye pecker.pecked my marens eye and he can't see out of it and its swolen. Little witch turned out to be a show quailty hen well so far anyway. Now she isn't mean to the others any more. My marens roo may need an eye patch poor little guy. As for my hatch last week 4 out of 6 Bieles made it one fully developed one died in shell. 5 out of seven FBCMs hatched two weren't fertilized but for shipped eggs I was happy with it.. 6 out of 7 legbars made it. one piped but died. I was toled with marens don't add any humidty. I have so much going on that I hardly checked them so under the conditions it was a good hatch. Pam

Three months old today & already my RIRs are integrated into the flock -- they are as big as some of my fully grown hens. I added them Saturday night & by last night they had already learned how to go into the coop at sundown w/the rest. Never was any fighting or anything. This morning when I went to open the coop & let them out for the day, my little roo crowed at me! TD, it's a good thing I kept two because something -- I suspect an owl - got one of the roos last week when it was so cold. I definitely will be hatching some more of these as soon as they start laying & their eggs get big enough (I don't like to hatch pullet eggs). I also want to hatch some crosses on my Cuckoo Marans & Welsummer hens & see if I can produce a sex-link chick - since Rhodebars are & that's a RIR/Barred Rock cross, I figure the Cuckoo Marans will produce a sex link since it's the same color pattern.

Are those the heritage RIR? The ones I've ever seen are smallish, like leghorns.
