So sorry for your loss Camping. She was very young.

Well it passed about ten miles south of me. Llots of rain though.

Miserable day today. I put my two wk olds out in the coop. Left the door open and a 5'snake got on and killed two of my white rocks. He ate one but the other was a pullet. I spent the rest of the day trying to get the 4 hens back in. They got wet but finally went in.

The weather has been inconvenient to say the least. Sorry about the snake!!! Having poultry gives you a whole new point of view on wild life!

Found this poor little juvie the morning, cold to the touch. I used the hair dryer to fluff him back up, then put him in the brooder. Hopefully he'll warm up and recover.

How did you little guy do? This weather is not very friendly towards any creature.
Very sorry to hear about you dog. It's never easy losing a loved pet. :(

thought I'd share some pictures of some of my babies now that they're growi

He was active and hungry when I got home. I put him back in the juvie coop. I haven't checked on them today, foolishly waiting for a break in the weather.

Thanks for the sympathy, y'all. I'm still just in total shock. Telling the kids was hard. The 6yo is demanding a new puppy (not gonna happen). Maybe we can find a pup after summer. I've been longing for a catahoula, and there are always plenty in the shelters.

Lost my sweet girl last night. She was only 5. She was barking when I got home, and by the time I got the chickens up and the kids down she was gone. I'm thinking maybe it was her heart? Cavaliers are prone to heart defects. I hadn't had her checked in a while because she didn't have any symptoms.

So sorry for your loss. Sounds like it was her heart. She was a little beauty.

Hatch day was to begin yesterday on my incubator eggs. I had filled it up! Almost all were fertile and a few failed.

We have 18 hatched and more coming. Some were put in a day late, so today is there hatch day.

I really think my last hatch going badly had a LOT to do with the cold winter weather. These babies are so quiet and calm. We didn't even know the first ones had hatched until we looked.

This time I separated the eggs from my Cochin hens in these little bins. Worked pretty good. I needed to find out who is throwing these mottled chicks.
