"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I wanted an outdoor brooder for our chicks that I could place in the greenhouse. (Which really is a grow out pen). As always we were behind on the project and I changed my mind on how to do it and ended up making it take way longer than it could have been. Hopefully it will be done in about a week.

I decided to sand the wood really well, stain and seal it. I'm sure that will last longer and the poop stains won't be so visible. Our bunny hutch we got at TSC 3 years ago is done like that and it has lasted very nicely. That is mainly what gave me the idea. It's not expensive wood or anything fancy. But I think it will work well. I'm also going to try the ceramic bulb that gives off only heat and no light. He made it 4ftx2ft with the top being the door (divided into 2 so I can lift only one side if I want to. I'm putting small mesh wire on the bottom and it has a full size poo tray.

Now if it only didn't stink like stain and had the wire done these babies could use it! Lol.

So cute! Maybe next year I will try my luck with incubating eggs.

Hi again Cody, I have 10 Broad Breasted Bronze and 10 Broad Breasted White Turkey's lol! We can't eat all that but I want to try and grow out the females and keep them for breeding next spring. The extra males are dinner so I will more than likely have an extra turkey to sell. Law says I can't process it for you but if you are part of a "co-op" then it could be processed here ;) We have processed our own the last of last years males was our Easter Dinner. It's only hard emotionally but my Red Burbon and Royal Palms last year were all boys :( And BAD Boys at that our last Royal Palm took it's last bite of a human (my 9 year old Grandaughter) 3 weeks before Easter and began the finishing out phase of his life the next day. Wasn't so hard after that either

but so glad to hear that your planning on rescuing an older dog from the shelter, sadly there are so many that die each and every day, it breaks my heart, and so I'm very very glad when I hear someone is going to save another life of a soon to be best friend. Hi to everyone and we thought about building an Ark too but hey.... who can pick just 2 of their chickens... not me LOL! So glad your ok LindaB

Lost my sweet girl last night. She was only 5. She was barking when I got home, and by the time I got the chickens up and the kids down she was gone. I'm thinking maybe it was her heart? Cavaliers are prone to heart defects. I hadn't had her checked in a while because she didn't have any symptoms.

Camping sorry for your loss my dogs are family. That's a big shock when they go suddenly. My heat goes out to you.

Well there is nothing like suddenly having to butcher 2 cockerels  After today's round of nasty weather we went outside. Sun was shining and those 2 decided suddenly and VERY LOUDLY honk their cock-a-doodle doos!!! I've never heard anything so loud from Cockers that didn't practice in all my life!!! They sounded like foghorns! I'm just glad the neighbors weren't all home. I try to butcher and large fowl before they get to that stage. But these have been so mild mannered and very quiet. Guess they were just saving it up. Now I know for the ones that are growing up to do them a bit earlier. We will have some grilled BBQ chicken in a few days. :drool

Mamakitty that sounds great. When the time comes I'd love to take one or more off your hands. I could help with the processing

I just started a hatch. 4 AC's And 8 savat hona's. Praying for a good breed quality roo to replace the one I lost. I'm suprized how much I like these birds. They are sweet my roo never started trouble but would protect his ladies from the other roos. This is going to be a long 21 days. I love seeing everyone's pics. I'll take some tomorrow. Pam

We have 22 new cuties so far. I can't believe every one of the bantam eggs that went into lockdown hatched. The last one was a little sticky, but it made it out on its own. There are still most of the Marans eggs in the incubator. Who knows how many more will make it out. I did see one rocking and peeping.
