"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I am doing good, been busy with the garden, we are getting squash, cucumbers, snap beans, tomatoes are loaded, peas are starting to put on, potatoes are making, okra growing good, corn growing good, egg plants making, getting peppers and onions growing good. Had some chickens sneezing and gurgling from all the rainy weather, I treated them with Tylan 100 for 3/4 days,  boiled their eggs and fed them back to them for 10 days, about 2 dz. per day. I built a new juvenile house for birds from 2/3 months old, about 30 total, 2 silkies, 3 RIR, 3 Buff Orp. 1 frizzle cochin, 3 buckeys, 3 White rocks,5 GLW,3 SLW,3 brown leghorns and 7 more we hatched, moved the 16 RIR and 14 DOMs 1 month olds we hatched to grow out coop, put the Sussex, FBCMs, OEs and DOMs from  previous hatch in a tractor. We hatched 22 of 84 eggs last time, not much success, but ended up with 5 pure bred Red Brown Ameracaunas chicks, 4 DOM chicks, 9 OEs, 4 FBCM. chicks, they are 2 & 3 weeks old. We are selling hatching eggs again to local PU customers only once again. The CCL roo got the sniffles and I treated that whole pen with the Tylan100, no egg loss there, Hazel still isn't laying but I haven't given up on her, I think she is in a mild molt, she is just over a year old I believe, all in all, things could be worse. I think I will move her to the Dominique pen when I get home where her friends are to see if she will give me some eggs. I think it is more temperamental than anything else, she loves George but don't like being with him 24/7, plus there are no other laying age hens with them, just several near laying age that I bought back that were hatched from my eggs and a few i hatched the same age. The 2 Lavender Orps and the 4 Golden Comets I got from Camping are giving me 5 eggs a day. The RIR roo with them keep them fertile so I may hatch some from those just for kicks, I have 200 total chickens and chicks, give or take 1 or 2. I have 6 hens and a roo sold when I get home next week, Not much else to say that I would say here, I have been checking in but not posting very much, usually just try to catch up on everyone else. Did you have any luck catching your predator, hate to see you lost a chicken, It is different when one just dies that you can not save, but to loose them to a predator leaves you at a total loss.:idunno

Wow you have been busy I'm tired just reading all of it. :pop I hope hazel quits being so sensitive. I sold her hatch mate with their roo and the laid the next day. I guess because she had her roo with her. I'm growing out and evaluating Ccl. Who will join the breeding program and who is for sale. I have new rare breeds so I've been learning about them so as the grow I'll be doing the same with them. I hatched some FBCM's from Bev Davis the eggs were extremely dark. I have an extra roo if your eggs aren't as dark as you want or if you need new blood in your breeding.
We haven't caught anything yet which is so strange. It was triggered one night but didn't catch anything. By now last year we would have caught 5 opossum and quite a few Raccoons . We haven't trapped anything. Knock on wood nothing else has been taken. Of course it was two Ccl from my b pen that I planed on keeping. So I have a hatch going to replace my black roo. I put some of their egg in so I will have diversity in their gene pool.
I'd love to see garden pics when you get home. Have a safe trip. Pam

I will post a few pics of the garden when I get home, the ones I posted before will not do the garden any justice now, everything is 3 times as big as it was last month, I may get back with you on the FBCM roo, my eggs are a 2 or 3 I think, I am not sure they are pure though but will make nice olive eggs when I decide to go that route, I have a few options for that, I would like to have some real dark egg layers. though.

These eggs were 7 to 8 on the color scale. To me they looked darker but I went in on them with someone who knows the color scale better than me. I have a quad from GFF but don't know how dark the eegs were and didn't get an extra roo. Guess I'll find out when they lay which I hope is in the next month. The Davis line has won a lot of shows and she helped get the SOP in this country. Pam
