"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm so mad!!! I've been losing one chicken here and one there. Thought we had a racoon problem my neighbor tells Ron that she has two mommas and their babies in her attic. So I noticed last night 4 chickens missing. It happened during the bad storm so I thought they were in a tree and I'd see them this morning. Well go out no sign of them. I check the trap we caught someone's cat. So I'm outside cleaning food dishes etc. plus looking for signs of what happened to those birds. All of a sudden the whole flock starts sounding off alarms. I can here one screaming I run over and see a coyote it dropped the chicken when it saw me then turned grabbed it an ran. Now I have to stay outside to hopefully catch him or a least keep him from getting any more till I can get them all cooped up. I am right out of town in a residential area. I have 4 acres that aren't cleared. First time I've ever seen a coyote here. Pam

That sucks!!!
I run that risk right now too since they free range in the day and just get locked up at night. Must have been a helpless feeling.

Pam sounds like that won't be an easy task to get the yote. You may have to use bait of some sort.

Sorry to hear that happened. What's worse is that you can't let your birds out now without constant worry.

I posted a couple weeks ago about incubating eggs for my Sister. Today they're on day 14 and two have pipped. Apparently somebody was sitting on them before they made it to my bator.

Well, i have been busy since i got home, been exspanding chicken yards, clearing out garden, we have hatched 1 lavender orping cross from a broody hen, and best of all, my OEs that i worked on for months have started laying, the first pic is with my phone, the second is a digital camera, much more realistic

The light spot is where the pullet scratched the egg before it dried, i am just tickled pink with these, now i cant wait to get started on phase 2 and then on to marketing these F1 eggs. i am happier than a pig covered in crap.

I have a Marens Roo that gets aggressive. I straiten him out he;s good a few days then starts again. Pisses me off he is the one the eye biter got and I nursed him back to health. Named him one eyed Jack. Well today he started again gave him the boot a few times. Now get ready to laugh :lau And I don't mind the laugh after the day I had. Well after the boot I get the eggs and go to head out as I step on the slimey wet muck I slip. I catch myself on the way down I come about 3 in from the muck but I can feel one eyed jack must have tried one more time when I was on my way down. LMAO!!!! I feel him and squished him Lol!! He's lucky I caught myself. And the kicker is Ron gets home just in time to see me sitting on jack. So he goes in after being squished senseless he doesn't do anything to Ron. Then we both started talking about if he doesn't stop he will be bait. My birds will be mad when thet are left in the coop tomorrow. We think it's a female because it was day light. It also explanes why we haven't caught one oppossum or racoon in our trap. Pam

That's funny Pam. Glad you didn't hurt yourself. It will be interesting to hear what happens with the yote and how ya'll will go about it. Wish you luck with catching it.

I had two chicks hatch last night and a third pipped, unzipped, and was nearly out this morning while in the egg tray turning.
Now I know why the air cells in some of the eggs were so far ahead of the others.
