"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Camping. Sorry to hear your still having possum problems and now a snake. Are you still going to build a new coop or something bigger? Seems like I remember you had plans to do something at one time.

Thanks Cody. Yeah, that's still the plan. We just have to do things more piecemeal around here, you know. This is our last full week of camp, so maybe we'll be able to start it in September when it cools down a bit.

Well, I've got five chicks now. I had to put some major tlc in the last two this morning. One needed to have its feet corrected, and the other had to be soaked and bathed to help remove all the egg shell and membrane stuck to it. That one came from the darkest egg. Another egg died before zipping all the way. I've got four left in there that haven't done anything. I'm satisfied with five chicks though. They will be a great start, and hopefully I'll get at least one of each gender. I wouldn't mind several cockerels. I could put any extras over my other Marans flock that will be used as layers once these mature

That is exciting!!! I absolutely love the eggs I get from the one BCM that I hatched from shipped eggs. Her eggs are actually darker than I expected. And she is a great hen. Really laid back. I hope all your babies do well!

Thank you! I really enjoy my Marans, and these came from beautiful eggs. Now just to wait the 6+ months until they start laying and breeding! How many eggs did you have shipped?

Oh it wasn't many. And it was a mixture of eggs. I ended up keeping a blue splash Marans, an Isbar/Marans cross (Olive egger) and the one BCM. They are all laying and doing well. Young new Layers are nice to have around. The blue splashes eggs are not very dark. More like a Welsummer egg. But she is a beautiful hen. I love those blue fluffy butts!

Yea, it's way too hot to be doing any building right now. Not mad----->
