"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Well dang. SOMETHING came either over or under my fence and OPENED the heavy wooden cleaning door to the coop and killed my FBMC and possibly two of her chicks. I was missing two pullets and kept finding handfuls of feathers in the yard, but eventually found one hunkered down in tall grass in a corner of the fence, and the other wedged under some old tomato cages against the edge of the house. Both seem to be physically ok.

I found the hen in the corner of the yard, head and shoulders missing. Raccoon, right? That's my best guess. I cooked a chicken the other day and boiled the carcass for stock. Could I use that to bait the trap?

The frustrating part is that I was sleeping on the sofa and the cat and I BOTH heard something, but the dog didn't, so we didn't get up to look.

Sorry to hear that Camping. Sorry for the loss of your hen could also be a possum. Pam

What are your dark egg layers, Pam? Marans? I'll be looking for another sometime soon. And by soon I mean "December." :lau

I'm trying to hold out getting chicks or hatching until November or December, so I'll get spring/summer layers. It's just too hard brooding in this heat.

How do you like the isbars? I've looked at them before, but I can't remember what their temperament is like.

F BC Marens are my darkest layers. I'm not hatching right now because it's too hot. Your timing will be good for me. I like the Isbars they are shy and keep to themselves they take care of them selves so I really like them plus the three that are laying one lays mint green, one olive, and one a sage green. The blue are my favorite the roo's are handsome the have gold coloring on them. It looks like real gold. Pam

What do cat kills look like? I just remembered that I've seen a big gray feral cat around...

My cats are afraid of the chickens they might go after a chick but not a full grown chicken. Unless it's a bobcat. I've never seen a kill from one. I'm pretty sure you have a coon or a possum . Pam
