"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

400

Sweet little thing. Light brahma, 6.5 weeks old. There are two sussex roos his same age left in the yard, so I'm hoping that eventually he'll end up with them.

What do cat kills look like? I just remembered that I've seen a big gray feral cat around...
That sounds like it could be a cat also, i have seen cat attacks when i was young, they start at the head and eat down till they get their fill, but if you lost a hen and 2 littles, probably something fairly large or more than one. Sorry for your loss

Wish I could give you advice Camping but I don't have experience with this. I guess it's too dry to see tracks in mud around your coop to tell what the culprit is.

I put one next to the coop, and one next to a tall stand of grass out toward the middle of the yard. Then I put a chicken carcass in plain site of a window. And put a light on it. And the light night scare everything off, but that would be fine by me.

I'm already missing a chick and pullet, one that was attacked this morning. I'm hoping they're just super well hidden. :/

Pam, How much are the legbars? What part of louisiana are you from?

I'm in Slidell La. Price depends on there age the closer to laying the more money they cost. I won't have any chicks for two months It's too hot. If you want older ones PM me I'll give you prices. I have 41/2 monthes and 6 months old some starting to lay. Pam

Well, I've got a possum in the trap. I'm also missing a pullet and a chick. Something grabbed a handful of the roo, and his alarm woke me up.

It's my own stupid fault. I've let them roost on top of the run since the second possum attack. So, I knew the risks I was taking.

I just spent an hour in the yard rounding up the roo and all the hens, chicks, and pullets. I couldn't get to three on top of the fence. I caught the roo, two hens, and a handful of pullets hunkering down in the grass.

It's a mess.

I'm supposed to take the kids to that dinosaur thing in LC tomorrow, but I doubt I'm getting anymore sleep tonight. Starting to regret taking those pullets to auction, or getting rid of all the roos. :/

Edit: I was just dozing off when I heard a noise. Looked on the back porch and found the missing pullet!! And also a hen that I didn't know I was missing. :/ Chickens were sounding the alarm so I went into the yard and didn't see anything, but I kept walking around and finally caught a possum sneaking under the fence. Took a while (dog is a coward, didn't have gun, gun wasn't loaded, etc.) but it's finally dispatched. I'll take care of the one in the trap in the morning.
