"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I had to get my punches from amazon. Vet wrap is at most feed stores and big box pet stores. Use betadine rinse with saline then put betadine or iodine in cavity. Their will be a hard plug of puss you must remove or it will come back. Pam

Thanks, Pam!

I have discovered a new source of supplemental protein for my chickens. I live out in the country and mosquito abatement is our area is pretty much a joke. Lately the mosquitoes have been horrible so I bought a Stinger bug zapper. Every morning the grids are caked full of mosquitoes and a some small moths that need to be blown out. So I have been collecting each nights harvest and stirring it into the morning food for my chickens. They seem to love it and it sort of seems like poetic justice for them, that they are now the ones feasting on the mosquitoes. :) Shown in the pic is one nights harvest that is about to be stirred into the food. It doesn't really show well in the pic, but the insects are actually about an inch deep. If anyone is having the same problem and wants to give this a try, be sure to get the Stinger model that has the double hardware cloth grids, the newer model with the "anti clog" bar type grid is practically useless for mosquitoes.

3 eggs pipped & they aren't officially due to hatch until tomorrow--- as long as I've been at this -- and these 3 are all the 1/2 Ameracauna & 1/2 my poor lost RIR roo - the true Ameracaunas always hatched on Day 19 so I guess her offspring are doing the same - bless you Georgette! - I took off work tomorrow so I could hover over my bator. Some things never change. Like the miracle of life hatching out of eggs. Go little eggs, GO~!

We have a bug zapper out back & every morning a red Cardinal comes & picks the "cooked" bugs out of it!

Five chicks so far -- 3 of the "Georgette's" & 2 RIRs. If I don't get any more, I'm fine with these, hoping most of them are hens! nothing from the shipped eggs. Never again on shipped eggs. I'm done there.

Last night was my first one back after my little 6-day adventure in solitude. Looked out the window and saw a big possum. :/ DH took care of it. That was no. 10! I guess tonight we'll have a party. I didn't move the carcass even a little bit.
