"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

You're so welcomed! Can't wait to see pics as they grow. Pam

I need to take fotos. They are so beautiful and sweet. I had to cut flight feathers twice because they were getting out of their private run into the big yard and I was afraid they would fly over the yard fence into where Jackson is. Tomorrow I'm planning to spend the day with the chickens cleaning and drying out, putting down pine shavings, cleaning out tons of molting feathers and winterizing a little more. I'm so pleased with those pretty girls. Thanks again.

Camping, here is some information on your RIRs you got from me. Rosalyn added another rooster 2 years ago from another heritage line & for the life of me I can't remember which one - I want to say Mohawk. Anyway, here's a pic of one of her roos -

& her info -
These are my favorite of all the big breeds and are a beautiful deep dark mahogany red. They are a show strain that has been raised and shown for over 50 years by the George Ryan Family in Arkansas and have won numerous Blue Ribbons and Best of Show at our county and state fair by them and myself. I know if you raise some they will be a winner for you as well. These are the true old type strain that have the pearl with rusty lacing on the legs. The standard now calls for yellow legs but I have never had any judge knock them down yet since they are a true old strain and all the judges just love them. They lay nice size brown eggs and make great fryers or baking hens too! Very sweet gentle birds, we've never had a mean rooster in all the years of raising them. They range really well and are very hardy in the winter too. They are defiantly a year round winner in my flock! We have had great fertility and hatch rate to date as well as the feedback on our shipped eggs.
She is correct about the gentleness of the roosters & also the fertility rate -- I had 100% hatch on her shipped eggs.
Anyway, good luck with them! I do miss them, but time to close this chapter & start a new one.

Thanks so much! :hugs I just love them so much already. I can't stop taking pics and texting my friends. That's very interesting about the leg color! I noticed this morning that they weren't yellow.

Great minds think a like. I was just thinking I wanted to ask you how they're doing and see some pics. I love seeing how they grow. Thanks Pam

I'm so happy you are pleased with them. Sorry for acting dumb & breaking down when you left; this is the end of a chapter for me & it was hard, but I am so glad they went to you - and Mom was OK with it when I told her about you & the camp & the kids, so it's a win-win for all of us. Mom has not been able to walk back there & see them all year She went outside at 3 a.m. this morning w/Casi, their dog, & slipped & fell - but didn't break anything, thank you God!  I have to convince her to use her cane or walker now.

Tell her my mom refused to use a cane or walker. I understand that using them makes you feel so old and disabled. But because she refused, she fell and broke her hip. She's now in a nursing home. Her mind is clear but her body just didn't fully recover from the broken hip. Clear mind and broken body not happy in a nursing home. So, tell your mom to use the cane and walker, that it's a lot more independent than a broken hip and nursing home. She'll still be home if she had. JS
