If your looking for plastic bird netting they carry it in different widths at Tractor Supply. If your run is 50' wide you'd certainly need support posts to span that width. For the cheapest alternative I would maybe consider using the netting to raise the height of the welded wire to at least 8' rather than covering the whole run. If you did cover the run the welded wire is 5' tall so you'd need posts down the middle 7-8' tall for a person to be able to walk in the run without bending over. I assume the welded wire is 2x4 so it's not exactly pred proof-a young possum can go right through it- and the netting would only be a deterrent for daytime preds(hawks). So I assume your goal is to keep the birds in and not so much pred proofing since you have a timed chicken door on a hopefully secure coop. If you want to keep chickens in I'd extend the welded wire with the netting. Extend the posts with rebar, 2x2 or 2x4 in 8' lengths tied to the existing posts if they're metal. Chickens tend to want to fly up and land on something to scope out they're next move. The netting will be loose and flimsy at the top so they won't be able to perch on top of it(theory). In the future if you want to deter hawks you could run-from post to post- nylon string or heavy fishing line across the 50' width of the run and tie shiny streamers, old CD's, ect... I've read that works. It all depends on how much money you want to spend. Even at 8' a chicken can fly over something if they really wanted to and if not fly completely over they'll fly up as far as they can then grab the fence with they're toes and fly and climb at the same time. I watched one of my Bielefelder hens fly 8-9' to land on top of a roof but she new she had something solid to land on. You could always clip a wing or both if you have a problem bird.

Cody, thanks for the info. I like the idea of just adding to the fence with netting. I have a bunch of leftover 1/2" EMT conduit that would work for that. Whole I was reading your post I watched one fly up and land on top of the fence lol.

In the meantime, I clipped the three birds wings that have been getting out the most. Thanks cody

No problem and your welcome.

I was just outside sitting with my birds and thought of you using conduit. Since you have it already it would be perfect. If you have some fittings to put on the top of the pipe to tie off to it would be easier to hold the netting up.

I'm thinking about putting netting over the whole thing but it's not cheap at all

It seems I always get one or two that fly out. They tend to be preditor savey. I leave them be most go in the coop at night. You can clip there wings. I know someone who strung a rope back and forth across her yard about a foot apart. She hung CDs to scare predators.
I just have too much ranging area to do that. Pam
