Hello.  I am new to BYC and will be getting some baby chicks soon.  I have had chickens before but it's been a couple of years so I can't wait.  I have always loved having them.  I look forward to learning from all of you and really enjoy this site.

how much should a year old hen eat in layer pellets a day. someone told me about 4 oz, but my chicks always seem hungry. can you over feed your chickens? this is my first year with chickens and so far they seem very healthy. their shells are very hard and don't easily crack.

All chickens act hungry 80% of the time because they are natural forgers. I dont know the exact amount of feed although i know protien content is important for nutrison and they need at least 16% for laying. How much they eat can also vary alot depending how much they free-range if you can allow them.
