Everyone getting NPIP so you can ship birds here's my psa. To ship chicks and hatching eggs you need form 9-3. I've NPIPed for two years and every vet that came out and did testing couldn't answer that question. I was told you get it from your vet. There are no vets here that care for birds. So called the head vet at our Ag extension . When I was tested they should have signed a book of 25 of the 9-3 forms. I had two green testers. Not they have to come out again to give me the paperwork to ship. He will be out of town this week so this won't happen till the first. Adult birds need checked by a vet before shipping.you must also use leg bans., so if you were tested and didn't get the book of forms you need to get them back out. For good news one more Orust has hatched send good vibes for poulets I have a lot of roo's to sell. Pam

how much should a year old hen eat in layer pellets a day. someone told me about 4 oz, but my chicks always seem hungry.  can you over feed your chickens?  this is my first year with chickens and so far they seem very healthy.  their shells are very hard and don't easily crack.
[/Ive read if kept in coop / run with no free ranging feed 7 oz. per bird. Pam

Ms Jenny gave me an even prettier egg today!

Brown hen egg next to it for chicken-turkey reference

:highfive: im beside myself! :lau i cant wait to see what we get! Going to fit some "breeder boxes" in there on day 7 candle so that upon hatch i dont get em mixed up, and ill post a shot of those.

Just a thought. A breeder friend of mine hatches her breeds in laundry netting. That way they can hatch, you can still see them and you keep the breeds separated. I'm going to try it for this next hatch. :)

Hello.  I am new to BYC and will be getting some baby chicks soon.  I have had chickens before but it's been a couple of years so I can't wait.  I have always loved having them.  I look forward to learning from all of you and really enjoy this site.

Welcome! Hope you can get the breeds you Love! They are so addicting!

The one who came to see me didn't leave any forms either. Just a pink slip from the testing and a card. He said that we should receive all the other forms in the mail but didn't specify what to look for. So, guess I will need to call him back to enquire about the forms just in case I decide to ship any chicks/hatching eggs. Now, are they just required if you ship out of Louisiana? How about when shipping within Louisiana?

I intend to "sew" plastic grid sheets for crafting into boxes so that hopefully theyre sturdy enough that the littles dont plow through them

I was only shipped back my NPIP certificate even tho I asked both times so I would call and make sure. Your not going to believe this I almost don't . The Isbars I donated to the auction are at 155.00 with more time to go. Only thing is I won't be able to ship till the 1st do to these green horns. I'm super happy they will bring in so much more money then I ever expected. Pam
