Mine are still young and just started laying so no molting as of yet. I heard its a sight though. EEK!
Yes, they quickly become pets! Parts of the family now.
Beautiful flock! I love pictures. Hopefully my girls will cooperate and let me take some descent ones this weekend! Weather is supposed to be horrible!

I have had several molting already, primarily our Black Star hens. It seemed to come a little early this year.
I have three SS pullets that are getting over a light molt and one White Leghorn cockerel that is in a full blown molt. I think he has one tail feather left.

One of my roos is moulting, but the rest seem to be waiting until next season since they'd JUST finished their adolescent moults.
Does anyone use those heating panels that look like a small flat screen tv ? Is that sufficient for the cooler weather coming next week ?
A heating plate for a brooder?
