When you said that the mallards come and go, that is the first thing that I thought. That's why I said that in my post. Now the only thing is and you may not want to hear this........ if the mallards are bringing "something" in, then where does that leave the mallards? It's a possibilty that the mallards are immuned to whatever they are bringing in, so they are not getting sick and dieing? So, how will that affect your flock from here on out if the mallards continue to live there. Do they need to test (titer test) a few of the mallard to see what the results are? I guess we'll have to wait for the test results.

If I were you, I wouldn't give those birds to your sister in law just yet. Not a good idea right now. Wait until you know the results of the tests. You are right to think that it may not be safe.

So, now it's a waiting game. I'm sending good vibes your way that this can all be cleared up with meds.

Thanks for sharing your problem and as Twiley said, please post the results so that this can be a learning experience for us all.

My turkey is making a sound now like there is fluid blocking his breathing passages. Sounds like that suction thing they use at the dentists office. None of the other birds did that. Please dont let me have 2 problems

Now THAT is not good AT ALL!!!! Where is he right now? What is the weather like over there? Is it raining? Is it hot? Can you get him in to clean and dry place? Could he have choked on anything?

Its about to start raining, so its cooled off a lot. I just moved him to a spot where he wont get rained on. I've lost hope of him surviving. My poor Mr Gobbles may be going with the Ag people tomorrow

If you're there alone and no one can help you, then you won't be able to hold him to "try" to look down his throat huh?

He seems alert and moves around a bit, but he "walks" on his knees (just started that last night) and cant go far. He ate fine yesterday. I was giving him scrambled eggs and watered down pellets with vitamins added to it. Today, he turns his head when I bring him food and tries to get away when I approach. Now he's started with this suction sound and he acts overheated. I've kept him in the shade all day and right by water. He lost a lot of weight with the sickness and now he wont eat, so I dont think he's going to make it. The gander did the same thing. Once he started turning down food, he died within 24 hours.
I tried to look down his throat earlier, but couldnt see anything. I dont have anyone to help to try to get a better look.

This is the first time anyone has been sick, so all I have is Wazine, DE, and vitamins.

Well, he may be at a point where you will have to wait and see what happens. I hate to say that but I'm not sure what we can do for Mr. Gobbles. The suctioning sounds worry me. The symptoms that he has right now are probably related to what is going around over there. It may not be much that we can do for him at this point. I'm so sorry. Just make sure that he is as comfortable as he can be.
