Either they are coming here or they are going to set up some people to help me get the bird there. I might have to bring it so far and then someone else will continue the trip.

Ok. I hope that they are able to get your birds their with no problem. Then it will be another waiting game for the results but at least they have the birds to test.

Again, I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this.

In the meantime, have you thought about cleaning and disinfecting your coops as a precaution. I"m not sure how your coops are set up, so I don't know how much cleaning you would have to do. I would also consider cleaning, soaking and disinfecting all waterers and feeders, take a look at changing bedding, etc. Also take precaution with you and your family's shoes. You may want to clean your "chicken yard shoes" before bringing anymore dirt/droppings into the chicken yard.

At the same time, the cleaning may or may not matter being as though you still have sick birds. If you clean and disinfect, whatever is there will still be there even after the cleaning.

My head is hurting just thinking about what you are going through. I'm so sorry.

Please keep us posted as often as possible.

Okay, just got a call. They're coming in the morning to get some birds to send to Houma to test.

I have bleached all the waterers, including the baby pools. I changed the bedding in the turkey run this weekend. The chicken coop will be done next weekend. They usually roost on top of it anyway. I have a specific pair of shoes for the chicken yard. I change their water out twice a day (including baby pools). Food gets put out daily in clean bowls. I dont let it sit and the food is stored in airtight containers in my house. They seem to think maybe the ducks are bringing it in, but they also keep mentioning influenza and newcastle, which I'm pretty sure it isn't. I told them I'd clip the ducks wings. I wasnt sure how they'd take it since its wild mallards, but they said if I could clip to do so. It'll have to wait until Friday when my husband gets home to help though. Ugh! I have 30 chicks in the raised pen that were supposed to have gone to my sister-in-law a month ago, but I dont know if I should bring them. None of them have gotten sick and she doesnt have any others, but still dont think its safe. I just feel bad because its getting overcrowded as they get bigger and I let them out or bring them to her. Hope they are quick with diagnosis.

It looks like it will be quite interesting! What branch of law enforcement are you in?

I work for the East Baton Rouge Sheriffs Office. Been there almost 12 years and my hubby almost 15. It's interesting to say the least.

I can only imagine the stuff I am going to see on a daily basis. I must be a little crazy for wanting this job! I am hoping for the best though. I have a good bit of friends in law enforcement, and they all seem to think I will do well with it. I sure hope so, because I would hate to do all this nonsense for nothing! I took the Matrix test today... Just the same questions over and over again

I'm ready for a nap!

Popcorn or Pie! I am an equal opportunity eater (which is unfortunate for my midsection)!

So glad that they are coming. It doesn't sound like influenza neither does it sound like newcastle but then again, I"m not a vet. I just play a vet at home.

When you said that the mallards come and go, that is the first thing that I thought. That's why I said that in my post. Now the only thing is and you may not want to hear this........ if the mallards are bringing "something" in, then where does that leave the mallards? It's a possibilty that the mallards are immuned to whatever they are bringing in, so they are not getting sick and dieing? So, how will that affect your flock from here on out if the mallards continue to live there. Do they need to test (titer test) a few of the mallard to see what the results are? I guess we'll have to wait for the test results.

If I were you, I wouldn't give those birds to your sister in law just yet. Not a good idea right now. Wait until you know the results of the tests. You are right to think that it may not be safe.

So, now it's a waiting game. I'm sending good vibes your way that this can all be cleared up with meds.

I hope that you can get a little relief knowing that your questions will be answered soon.

Well, this thread is open 24/7, please post as often as you like. Your "La-yer" friends are here to help you. I know it will be hard to do, but try to get some rest and we will hope for the best.

Thanks for sharing your problem and as Twiley said, please post the results so that this can be a learning experience for us all.
