"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

This is my Nola. In the picture, it looks like she's just tucked up, but when I feel along her neck about halfway down you can feel that its twisted. Can they get wry neck and not have the head upside down like most of the pics I've seen?

I gave my little roo with wry neck poly vi sol vitamins twice a day. It did help after a while good luck with your girl.

How long was "a while"? Did he get to where he could eat on his own?

I honestly don't know how long maybe a couple of weeks. And yes he could eat in his own. For awhile though he was looking at the sky and tripping all over hisself.

I'm starting to think wry neck or something similar. I thought she was just holding her head tucked in, but I felt along the length of her neck last night and it seems that her head is actually twisted! The only thing I know of like that is wry neck. Does anyone else know of anything else that could cause a twisted neck? I am giving her vitamins and she is eating so many green beans that I think my whole spring harvest will be gone by tomorrow. I have her inside and bring her out a couple of times a day to sit in her pool. I have to go into town for 4 hours later and am dreading leaving her. My poor girl

Missi is right. Every situation will be different as far as when the wry neck will go away. Some people say a few days and others say a few weeks.

So this is what woke me up at 2:40 AM this morning.

About an hour ago, I get a knock on the front door. I opened up and I saw my neighbor. I thought that she was here to tell me that "Peter" (my rabbit) was over at their house. Well, that wasn't the news that she was bringing. She frantically begin screaming that a dog was in my chicken yard. I was like "WHAT"?! So, I ran out of the house into the chicken yard in my robe and slippers. I asker her where did she see the dog. She said that it was in the back. I ran to the back but didn't see the dog but did see "Peter" who was frolicking in the morning dew.

I just looked at him and rolled my eyes.

I continued to look for the dog but couldn't find it. Then I turned around and looked along the fence line and the dog was standing right there. I slowly walked over to the dog and tried to pet it. It came close but then walked away. I kept trying to get closer and it kept walking away. I finally was able to get close enough and rubbed the dog on her head. She let me rubb her. So, I talked to her awhile and continued to rub her. I tried to pick her up and she didn't fuss, so I gently picked her up and walked back to the house. She let me put her in a cage. I gave her a bowl of water and food. She was VERY thirsty.

So, since my neighbor was here, I asked her to help me catch the rabbit. As we started walking towards Peter, it started raining, so we had to cancel the rabbit hunt. So, I go back inside. As I'm looking through the back french doors, I noticed a black truck that was driving VERY slow down the side road. The side road is a dead end and the only cars that go down the road are the people that live on that street. This truck did not look familiar. I immediately thought that this truck was the owner of this hunting dog and that he was looking for his dog. So, I try to put some clothes on to go outside to run him down. By the time, I got outside, the truck had already passed. I ran in the street to try to flag him down but he didn't see me. I immediately ran in the house to get the car keys to follow this truck. Well, I didn't find the truck but I went from house to house to see if anyone had a dog missing. I had the camera in my hand so they could take a look at the dog. The first house that I went to, I noticed another hunting dog that was loose and I knew that this one was the brother or sister to the one that was at my house. I tried to catch the dog but he ran away. So, I left Hosue #1. Well, I turn down a dead end street and I notice a truck that looked like the truck that I saw. I pulled up in the driveway and got out. I went to the door and knocked. A little boy came to the door and I asked him if they had a dog that was missing. He said, "No". I asked him was his parents home and could he get his parents so that I could talk to them. Well, the mom came to the door and I asked her did they have a dog that was missing. She said "YES"!!!! I showed her the picture and asked her if that was their dog. She said "YES"! She said that they got out of their cage last night and had been missing since. At that time, the husband comes from the woods with a dog on a leash. He had caught the other dog. I told him that I had his dog at my house and that he should follow me to pick up his dog. They were so happy. These dogs were their hunting dogs that they had spend a lot of money on. He said that he was so depressed when he couldn't find them. So, he followed me home and got his dog. THANK GOODNESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! And his hunting dog was after my RABBIT!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah on the corn cutting, I too cut the end of my pinky finger off this season too, didn't have to have anything sowed back on it was just a deep layer of skin that I cut off but it took a long time to ever heal too. I was using the corn cutter to chop up a cucumber for a snack probly the wrong tool for the job huh? or I just realy wasn't paying close enough attention to what I was doing most probly anyway after the blood stopped flowing I still got to enjoy my cucumber snack, I found a Cajun seasoning that is "da bomb" on a fresh from the garden, sliced, room temperature( non-refrigerated) cucumbers, its called Soileau's Louisiana Cajun Seasoning Ca' Fe' Cheaux its made in house at Soileau's Cajun Meats in downtown Rosepine, La. if your ever up/or down DeRidder way its worth the few minutes drive to Rosepine and check them out.

Well we are leaving out in a bit going to Tunica (the casino) for three days. Are any of y'all familiar with Tunica? We have free rooms all month and we are taking the dd to swim at the huge pool at Harrah's and going to Memphis to do some back to school clothes shopping. My dd is 6 and this year she has to pick out every outfit herself or at least approve the ones I pick out LOL. I loved the days I just bought what I wanted but that seems to be over.

Thank you. The pic of the turkeys is offspring of My big boy "Mr. Turkey". Thanks for asking about him. And yes, I did post an upate on him. I will copy and paste it below.

UPDATE FOR 7-1-2011 - STATE TESTING
I just wanted to update everyone on my Bourbon Red Tom Turkey. For those of you who are aware, I have been dealing with a situation with my Tom for a while now, so I decided to contact the State for help.

I had contacted the State Vet who did my NPIP testing and asked him if he could come out and draw some blood and send the blood to the state lab and have my turkey's blood tested for ANY and EVERYTHING. When I say this, I am referring to having my turkey's blood tested for Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG), Avian Influenza, Fowl Cholera, etc.

Well, after we were able to arrange our schedules, he came out and took blood. This blood was sent to the Sate lab and tested.

I received the results today and the results are NEGATIVE. They could not find anything wrong with my turkey. All blood work was great. He has ABSOLUTELY no diseases of any kind, which I was already pretty sure of that because no other animals have been or are affected. WHEW !!!!!!!

The state also sent my turkey's info (past problems) along with pictures of my turkey's twisted neck to a Doctor of Vet Medicine and Master of Avian Medicine at a Poultry Disease and Research Center at a University in another state and his opinion was that this (the twisted neck) may have been a traumatic injury and the respiratory issues a result of poor air flow. He does not think that is related to any viral or bacteria issues.

I asked about Prednisone because I have read that Prednisone helps wry neck and he said that steroids could be used to alleviate any discomfort as far as the neck is concerned. However (which I already knew), the steroids would weaken my turkey's immune system. So, I won't go that route.

Well, I'm relieved to know that this matter was handled by the State who is trained on testing for diseases, so if anything was wrong with my turkey, the blood results would have showed problems but it didn't.

I know that our animals don't live forever, so in the event my turkey goes to turkey heaven, I will have a necropsy done on my boy so that I will know more about what could have caused his twisted neck.

So, this is the final report on my Tom's condition. As of today (and since January 2001), he still has a twisted neck. He has not shown any signs of illness at all. He is getting along just fine. He does not show any signs that he is in pain at all. He continues to eat and drink on his own with no assitance from me.

Thanks again for asking.

Thank you. I do try my best to return the animals to their owners. I think that it's not the animalss fault that the animals get out, so I don't want to punish the animals. I always try to work with the owners in trying to resolve the problem. However after 3 times, and I think that's plenty chances, then I have to take the matter in my own hands.

As far as being patient, I'm losing it with this rabbit still being out and running rampid.
