We made it back safe and sound, and it sure was gorgeous! Never been to the Rocky Mountains before, but I loved it. I can't wait to go back next year when we have more time to spend there.

I start the new job tomorrow! Hope everyone has a great week!

Gracie, Glad you enjoyed your vacation. Yes; the Rockies are breathtaking! My husband and I did some vacation cross country traveling on his Harley for a few summers. We even made a motorcycle trip from Louisiana to Alberta, Canada. I've been to the top of Pike's Peak on the motorcycle and had a cup of hot chocolate as we enjoyed the view.

The strangest thing that ever happened to us while traveling was that on one of our trips where we planned to go to the Sturgis Bike Rally in North Dakota. We left Louisiana and traveled north through Texas and into Oklahoma and the temperatures were around 105 degrees in the afternoon. We were miserable on the bike and decided to call it a day and stopped for the evening. The next day we traveled from Oklahoma and then into Colorado. The following morning we left Colorada and as we were coming into Wyoming it started snowing. Snowing during the end of May! Something we Cajuns surely don't expect to encounter.

We decided that we'd rather not travel in the snow so we, again, stopped traveling for the day due to the weather. The next morning it was 15 degrees. You talk about extremes in weather!

We were good sports and got back to our traveling when the weather warmed up to 25 degrees.

I think that was the coldest I've ever been in my life! Boy, it's a good thing I love that man!

Congrats on the processing. Sounds like you had your hands full since you were doing it alone. How did the hatchet work? How did you hold their heads down? I'm afraid of missing their heads and then the poor birds will have to suffer for a few more seconds or minutes while I re-position them. I don't want to torture the poor birds.

The hatchet worked well. I grabed them by the feet with my left hand & turned them upside down. I layed the head & neck down on a board. It didn't completely sever the head, but it did the job. From there I threw them into a 55 gal drum. They moved around for about 30 seconds, which may have been the worst part about it. The first one I definitely found my self saying "easy boy". It is definitely an emotional experience, but once they were dead, the rest was not bad at all.

How many did u do?

I did 3, but only 2 successfully. One had liquid in the body cavity. It happened to be the one that bit me & I dropped him. So I had the bright idea to shoot him. Lesson learned though.
