"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

My chicken yard was a MESS. The Guin Pen was the worst. The guineas were covered in mud. I guess it rained sideways because it was so muddy in there. Some of them were so muddy, that they were grounded. They couldn't fly onto the roost because they were covered in so much mud. The mud was weighing them down. It reminded me of the oil spill when the birds were covered in oil but instead this was mud. It was just as bad. So, needless to say I was giving baths last night to all of my guineas. I was out there until midnight last night. Every 2 guineas that I bathed (24 total), I had to change out their bucket of water. And this means walking to the house and getting warm water from inside the house. I didn't bathe them in the cold water from the outside hose. I just wasn't going to do that. The water was BLACK. I had to haul a bale of hay in their pen and spread it out for them to try to absorb the water and mud so that they could walk without getting muddy again. Their feeder and waterers were covered in mud. I felt so sorry for them.

I hope that the weather gets better soon. I have decided that EVERY pen and chicken house will now have a sand run. I will not bathe ANOTHER guinea because of a muddy run!

Oh Julie,.. so sorry,.. poor guineas,.. you must be dog tired,.. . I know what ya mean about that sideways rain,.. it rained like that in the rooster's pen and there was nowhere for him to go but up in the rafters,. I hope you dry out soon,.. we still have standing water in the chicken yard and even the usually dry areas are squelchy,.. rained every day since then too,.. wasn't it just weeks ago we were in a drought?

All this talk about nasty runs, etc. makes be truly dread what I'm going to find tomorrow when I get home.

The last day of our vacation and we wake up to some nasty weather. But it looks like it's clearing up. It wouldn't bother me any to stay in this hotel bed and be lazy all day but the boys wanna hit the beach for some skim boarding. With that being said I need to get my crew up and going. Have a wonderful day.
