"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I think it's a great idea. I know I've used the one in the Peacock thread more than once. Can you get one of the mods to put a permanent link at the top of our La-yer thread & we can start contributing to it?

Great!! The more info submitted the better. So much experience and knowledge in our thread!

I think that this will help a lot of us out.

Ok..Per Julie (didn't think you were gonna get off that easy huh?..lol.) This came up in discussion on the "Emergencies" post.A moderator was asked if we could have a sticky attached to this thread,in which the response was basically No,Basically they are re-routing for us to simply post in the emergencies topic. They won't do a sticky because no one reads them ... . SOOOO..... We figured the next best thing...
We will just have to have a particular post (say like #800 or something and then add the Post # or link in our Signatures? Maybe get Sassy to add the link in her Original post in bold for reference.? If everyone knows to refer to a particular post (that's why I suggested 8000 or something notable. #10,000? I think we would reach that in no time AND give us a lil time to start compiling?) We could keep a watch for that #'d post and use it for our info.So whoever got to the # first would be the editor?...lol.. About the best I can figure right now.
After further conversation,Julie has suggested I watch for the post # to come up and be the editor.I will pass this to you all who can vote for it to stand or vote for yourself,so that no one feels left out...lol... But either way,we can use EVERYONE'S help with this compilation of info.It will be for everyone's use as well as Newbies. To add info or link you can simply post or PM it to Julie or myself for review.EVERYONE'S info and experience is needed and useful!!! Not sure what post we are on (it doesn't show in the reply mode) but we can shoot for 8000 or 10,000 for a milestone number that will stick? Which one ????

Just joking.

I agree. Whoever wants to be the editor is defintely welcome. Whatever you all decide will work.

Not too many people on the board today. Terri, Whiskey Bay and GLBRWyans were the only ones to chime in so far about our resource thread. So, I guess we can wait for others to log on to see what they want.

OK I need ya'lls help, opinions, sympathy? whatever advice you can spare! I just sent Eagle to the bayou. Gator Bait.

I went outside a while ago to check on everybody's water supply, and I had the main flock out free ranging all day today, & out of nowhere, he attacked me. Ya'll may remember I said he was getting aggressive a few weeks ago.

He got me 3 times on one side of my leg, mostly nicks & bruising, and cut about a 1/2 inch gash on the other side of my leg.

I came inside & doctored it, then took my .410 & went outside, corralled him inside the main pen, walked him into a corner & blew his head off. He didn't even twitch. I took the carcass and walked through the soybean field down to the bayou & pitched him in.

I am just sick about it, and sad, and angry. Every roo I've ever had never makes it past 2-3 years of age - -they always turn aggressive & vicious & I have to take them out. I'm so tired of this! Why am I even bothering? I originally just wanted a little flock of laying hens, then I got all caught up in the dark egg - blue egg - thing & started hatching eggs from breeders to get bigger better darker brown or bluer eggs --

I still have SEVEN roosters to deal with -- the 3 Am. roos I need to cull, (which refuse to go in the coop so are ranging all over the place-- and where's a predator when you need one?!) and I have the 2 Am roos I wanted to keep for future breeding (because, always keep a backup roo, right)? and the 2 Welsummer roos (2 months old & already trying to crow, O my goodness)!!!

Right now I'd take out every one of them without blinking an eye. I am so tired of dealing with roos & all the trouble they cause! I just thank goodness no small children were around to get attacked.

Is it really worth the bother to even go through the trouble of breeding your own? Seriously, please enlighten me!

So Sorry to hear about ur incident with Eagle. I've ended a few roos because of the same thing. Hubby keeps a seperate pen on another part of the yard for "sale" birds.(my culls and others) Plenty of times I'd had a roo come after me.But those are strictly for meat sales anyway,so I just dont bother with them.On my own yard,my birds are rotated every year or so(depending on actual age, number of upcomers,etc...) So My roos are usually thrown into the sale pen when I have suitable replacements for then.Unless that rooster simply is way better than anything I have to replace him,he goes too. Most of my guys are for the most part handle-able.I even have a pair of 1 1/2 yr old twin OEGB roos who are lovey dovey. They learn early or get culled. One thing I have learned in dealing with the breeding birds,is that a normally sweet rooster will become defensive with hens, mainly during laying season...
