"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I sure wish you were closer to Alexandria as I have four roos you could take your pick - one is a big beautiful blue wheaton, one regular wheaton & two are Welsummers - all from breeder lines. I am going to list them on Craigslist & if I don't get a response by this weekend they will all be going to freezer camp.

I'm not keeping any more roos, just a laying flock. I noticed that when I don't have roos, one of the older hens will assume the role of flock leader & protector.

I'm sure some of the folks closer to you will have a roo for you!

Terri, I hope Jim is doing ok and is sleeping better.

About the duck wranglers......... Well, I had planned to vidoe tape the circus but when they arrived and I saw that they had a small net with a handle of about 2 feet, I knew that their "apparatus" of choice would not do the job. Soooooooooooooo, to make a long story short, my cousin started to help them catch the ducks. As I see my cousin running around trying to help them, I pulled him on the side and said, "Hey, that is not what the plan was. They are to catch the ducks themselves. That is what my ad said. If that was the case, I could have contacted my 5 brothers and asked them to come over and catch the ducks." So then my cousin stopped. But after a few minutes of them trying to catch the ducks, I was ready to end the circus. We both (me and my cousin) started helping them. We caught 4 ducks and that was it. So, we caught MY ducks and gave them away. Something is wrong with that picture. If I would have known that, then why would I have strangers over to catch MY ducks just to give them away for FREE. Well, at least 4 of them are gone. They weren't able to catch any more. So, I don't think that I will go that route again. I'm not going to chase down my own ducks to give them away for free.

Hey there La-yers good morning

GLBRWyans- you more than likely have a broody hen on your hands esp since you said she headed right back to the nest when she was removed. If she was egg-bound she wouldn't necessarily head directly back on the nest and usually when a hen is egg bound she'll stand in a manner as if trying to lay the egg with her abdomen dropped down and sometimes you'll see them kinda hunker down even more like in a motion trying to expel something out their bottom end and they will be listless or lethargic acting. like Terri asked is her comb more red or dull waxy or even purple sorta, a egg bound hen will prolly have a more red comb like a hen in production and usually a broody's comb usually become darker and dull or dry looking as they are not in the mood to produce eggs. If you can post a pic of that girl on the nest and let's see how her manner.

Hope you all are doing well! I finally got my shop in order today!!

It was a disgusting mess.

After I got so burnt out with my candle & bath & body business (which by the way total coincidence was/is called Back Yard Candles & Stuff) I just quit doing it and refused to take any more orders. Everybody decided that it was a great place to put crap. Well after a few years of crap and a few mice that got in there it was just plain gross!!

(I would have rather been cleaning up chicken poop) It's clean and organized!!

Plus I got the troughs in there where I will brood the chicks when they hatch!!

I think I'm going to screw cup hooks from the ceiling to hold the light up. Haven't quite working it all out yet!! I also have all my waterers & feeders in the big blue bin all nice and clean and all my brooding supplies together!!

Have a great evening everyone!! Think I might go make a candle or 2!!

Jeff ,
I got some really good info from some others as I posted this to the entire forum as well . I think or am almost certain she is just broody . No one mentioned the color
of combs though , I didn't see Terri's response . Will go back and check it out . I am not to good at getting pictures posted on here , but my wife will help , cause she is better
than I with the tech stuff . Thanks to all that have responded , I really appreciate it .

We do - we rake up fresh grass clippings & all the weeds I pull from my rose bed. I also ask at the grocery store produce dept - they pull a lot of green stuff off the shelf & will give it away.

I always heard fish will give the eggs an off taste, so I never tried it.

Julie what happened with the duck wranglers?

We had a restless night here, Jim kept having leg spasms. I guess so, he is lifting his own weight plus that plaster cast all day long! I'll up his intake of bananas, orange juice & sweet potatoes & see if that helps.

People who go off on retreats to strengthen their relationships can do better by just staying at home & putting one of them in a cast on crutches. Talk about therapeutic!

Have a good Sunday everybody!

Edit to add: if fish would make eggs taste fishy, I wonder if you could feed them say, Tony Chachere's & make the eggs taste Creole?

Folic acid is real good for spasms , don't over due bananas because one can get to much potassium and it can mess with the heart .
