and no I don't get a smacking for saying that 'cause I never wished for it to hurry up and cool off in fact I reminded every-one of the pain in the @$$ the frozen water founts 'cause when its freezing out. I'd rather the hot any day. I can already see it now stuck inside all cooped up with cabin-fever setting in. Nope, no thanks already wishing for it to be done and over before it even starts. Cold makes me sick literally, never sick in the hot heat though, never, just winter time, bleck, patooey.

Hey ,

My chickens are in a fixed area ,and was reading an article about how after awhile, the ground will get toxic . Besides putting lime, and using a disinfectant on the ground ,is there anything else that would help , cause I am not moving them , the fencing or their 5***** star motel .

SAND is your friend! Julie swears by it. I have some in some places but not all over - my run's too big - maybe if I ever win the lottery. It drains nicely & is easy to sift through.

Woke up this morning to the sound of pouring down rain -- boy I dont' even remember the last time I heard that!
It's already cleared out, but I don't have to water the fall garden today! Yay!!! and Jim will get his cast today. I hope it's one of those 'cam cast' things that buckles on, so he can take it off & take a real shower, but we figure it'll probably be just more plaster. At least with it turning cooler, he won't itch. *scratching hard to find a silver lining here* Have a good Tuesday everybody!

Terri is right. Sand is your BEST FRIEND! I will never again use anything else in my runs. NO smell, neat, clean, drains well, does not get hot, really no cleaning needed (the sand takes care of that). I don't use any lime, disinfectant, etc. I don't need to.

Hope all goes well with Jim's cast.

The end of the year is approaching. Where did the time go.

It will soon be Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I will eventually use sand when I build my new coop. Just don't feel like putting it in this one and them starting over. What I do is keep adding hay to mine. They love to scrath through it and that helps with the smell and moving the poop to the bottom. After a hard rain for awhile when it gets muddy and stinky I will sprinkle a bag of lime down and then put hay on top and it helps big time!!

Believe it or not, that is the best thing that people can do. I truly believe in "Wish Lists". That way, the person can't go wrong in getting what you really want as opposed to buying something that will be taken back to the store, re-gifted or something that will sit in the closet for years. I know they say it's the thought that counts but "THOUGHT - about getting me someting I can use". DUH !!!!!!!

Gift certificates are always a good choice. That person can go to the store of their choice and get what they want. My wish list for this year will be TRACTOR SUPPLY gift certificates. WHO KNEW?! I wonder what I can get over there.

I use washed sand but I'm sure you can use whatever you want. Washed sand has less "dust". I bought 3 yards for only $20.00 (pick up).
