"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

And I want some!!!!!!!!! :p

Quite a few years ago I wanted to raise some of those big girls.  I went to an ostrich ranch in Robert, LA and observed their set up and bators, and also went to a BarBQ with ostrich burgers (YUM).  LSU used to have an ostrich field on Highland Road right by the gates.  I got in touch with them to learn more.  I went to their offices and saw their bators and those BIG eggs.  Before they let me go into the pasture with the ostriches, I had to take off my earrings (ostriches like to peck those) and they told me to not get directly in front of them because they said they would "lay me open from neck to stomach with their BIG front claw."  When I got into the pasture, I kept trying to dodge being in front of them.  I have to admit I was very AFRAID.  I don't know how true all that was, but that was the end of my ostrich dreams.  LOL  To put everything into perspective, I was afraid of my Black Stars when I got them at 3 weeks old.  LOL  I told my granddaughter, "these are our chickens now and we cannot be afraid of them."  So we petted them and held them until they were calm and we were, too.  LOL  So, that's the rest of the story.

Although I want some, I know how dangerous they are. I only want them in my dreams. :gig

I bet that was a great experience for you. I would have loved to have had that experience.

So, I have gone from wanting that to wanting an Alpaca or a Llama. :)

You could've gotten emus for free here - somebody turned a whole bunch of them loose in the woods where my old boss has his hunting camp.

Hey good morning La-yers! boy it sure did turn into winter here - & fixing to get worse, too!

We had to pick the rest of the lemons yesterday or the freeze will turn them into mush. We picked a couple branches & I had my sink in the kitchen filled up with them plus a big box. Jim said, "you ought to go talk to your buddies across the street & see if they want to sell any" (meaning Inglewood Farms) -
so I did -- & they bought all that I had! -- four bushels of lemons that they will sell & give me a percentage of the profit at their farmer's market!

I processed the ones in the sink & got exactly one gallon of lemon juice, so I have my ice trays full & the rest in the fridge until I get them all converted into "lemon cubes".

OK busy day at work so have to hop to it. Have a good day!

It poured here early this morning. I got soaked in the chicken yard this morning. :/

Glad that Inglewood Farm bought that. That is great!!! They will sell like hotcakes.

1 gallon of juice? WOW! I had some of that delicious lemonade this weekend with some red beans and rice and deer sausage. :drool

Terri, the male pea that I got from you fanned for the first time this weekend. I wish I had my camera so that I could have taken a pic. He is a beauty.

Prince decided to fly on the chicken house to fan and walk back and forth. I guess he didn't want to be out done. :/

Wish I would have known...emus were really expensive back then. I think the eggs were going for thousands and a mating pair much much more. This was around 1998. Yeah, I'm getting old! LOL

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is in a nice warm area. Cold out today. I have been busy with the business plan, making agreements to watch and observe the bluebonnet classic in Texas. Might be purchasing several birds there.

Do you know, I'm afraid that both - yes BOTH of my white peas are girls? We have not seen either of them fan - not one time!

Burtis & Hindu & Cloud have all fanned & we know those 3 are boys for sure-- Screamer we know is a girl & she has not fanned (altho I know girls can).

I'm glad you mentioned gumbo! I just remembered I have some duck & sausage in my freezer -it'll taste good tomorrow night! I made a big pot of homemade soup yesterday (vegetable beef).

Both are girls? Well, in a way that's a good thing. You will have a greater chance of getting more eggs with 2 girls and more chances of getting more solid white pea for 2014.

Wouldn't that be funny if your place is the place that hatches all solid white girls and my place is the place that hatches all solid white boys? :lau Get ready because I will be shipping some of those boys to you ASAP!!!!!!!! I won't be able to keep all of those solid white boys. :lau
