"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey there Terri I still got to put some wire back up to have a fully enclosed area for those peas but it wouldn't take me too much to do it though, but it'll still yet be a little bit before these NHs are up and going good enough to collect from but getting closer it seems. I may be headed over to the machine shop soon to bring another engine block for some work to be done on it. I could get the peas then or when I get the eggs collected up I'll holler atcha and you can bring them then, whatever will be better for you, you need the room it sounds. I'm putting the rush on these NH girls to get it in gear, its still up to them to 'geterdun' LOL

Oh on the liking one better than the other, I like the NH a tad bit better but not by much as I have been a fan of RIRs for a long time. I like the NHs for their color/looks. RIRs are the best all-around type though to me. I didn't help much there did I LOL I think the NHs lay better than my RIRs or my BRs are going to do, 'bout like the Delawares do.

Jeff
I'm not in any rush - we're moving the peas to the "big pea pen" after the 1st of the year - we have a divider fence to put up so they can get used to the older peas before we run them all together.

I just fired up my 'bator again last weekend so no rush on the New Hamps either, as I have to get this next set hatched first! I've never had NH's - I love my RIRs though!

:frow Hi everyone I am Sulphur, near Lake Charles. Just wanted to say hello!!!

and to La-yers !

LOL @ breathing to the bag. 20 minutes? You are GOOD!!! It takes me an hour to process ANYTHING! I'm super slow. I would starve to death if people were waiting on me for dinner. :/ Take pics of your meal so we can see that tasty bird. Good job!
If anyone was waiting on you for dinner, THEY would starve to death, too ! That's because you are a PERFECTIONIST !! LOL :lau :gig
Are pluckers expensive? Because I'm cheap.
Hold onto your britches, DH is making me one for under $100 plus a recycled clothes dryer and some odds and ends he has laying around his shop! You know all those ducks I will be processing in Jan. or Feb. along with those meat birds, I'm raising? He hates processing poultry! :highfive:
Oh my goodness! Some wonderful person just gave me a quart of candied pecans! :drool
Lucky you !!! I love pecans. You must be a real good girl for Santa to visit so early !:thumbsup
LOL @ they would starve to death. Well, yea, that's truth. I have to make sure all of the feathers are off of the bird. :lau :p I can't wait to see your new plucker. Lucky you.!!!!

Something I noticed today, a dark feathered turkey has dark pin feathers,so they take much longer to process, but dark feathered chickens pluck as clean as light feathered chickens. I was thinking again, cause an owl killed 2 of my chickens very early this morning, but didn't get to take either one, cause my 2 dogs were on duty and ran it off before it could do anything after the kill. I hope they got a good bite out of that old owl, before they got rid of him! It punctured the neck of the cockerel and the pullet, but hit the pullet with enough force to break several ribs, the shoulder and tare some skin and meat off the breast. My dogs are just starting to understand that any bird that is a stranger and comes out of the sky, is not welcome. Only thing is the egrets around here are not a problem, but get chased too! Just till they land off the property line, and then the dogs leave them alone. Even without fences up they know where the property ends! Everybody got fried chicken for supper tonight. Hand plucking just one or two isn't bad, it's the 10 or 20 or 50 that gets me! Just make sure your scaling water is 150 degrees, and gunk them until the wing and tail feathers pull out easily and the rest of the feathers go really fast. I agree with you, all the feathers have to be off the bird or it not plucked, right!!!

The owls have been really active around our place every night lately, I be sure to lock up my chickens just before dark - I've lost them to owls before.

Boring day at work today - ready for my days off! Saw another humdinger of a wreck on the busy street in front of our office. People sure do need to learn to slow down & watch where they're going!

I can't believe how fast my little Welsummer chicks are feathering out - I'm going to have to move them to a bigger brooder this weekend.

Good morning everyone!

Is it me or do the Salvation Army bell ringers get on your nerves from all of the bell ringing? If I hear another bell ringing, I'm going to rip my eyes out and throw them up against the wall like marbles.

Anyone want 2 guinea pigs (FREE)? Someone asked me if I wanted them but I can't take on any more animals. I'm at max capacity right now.

I hope that everyone has a great day. :frow
