"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

OK I have a problem -- I think the three guineas are harassing the hens when they're on their nests.
I had them all out roaming around the other afternoon, & I noticed one hen on the nest, then the 3 guineas went stalking inside there & commenced to start hollering & she came flying out of there like her tail was on fire.
I remember noticing guinea feathers in a couple of the nests, & at the time I thought maybe the female was getting ready to start laying, but now I'm wondering.

I haven't gotten ANY eggs at all in going on two weeks now. Some of it's the lack of sunlight, a lot of it's that my hens are all old now except for my two RIRs - but zero eggs?

Do ya'll think the guineas are the reason? If so, they may be turned into gumbo real soon....

Terri, can you lock the guineas up for a few weeks to see if your hens start laying eggs again? If so, then the guineas very well maybe the problem. Before they go in pot, try that out and see what happens.

I saw one of my turkey hens drag a hen out of a nesting box and commenced to throwing her about 2 feet from the nesting box just last week. Poor chicken took off running. I had a come to Jezus meeting with the turkey hen and explained to her that I really love the taste of ground turkey. We'll see what happens.

Really? I didn't think turkeys would be aggressive to chickens like that!

I'm trying to think where can I put them (the guins). I like them & really don't want to eat them but if they don't leave the hens alone, they are history. We're moving the young peas to the big pen this weekend but I need my growout pen for the Welsummers to move in to. The guineas are so used to flying out every day & roaming all over the place all day long. I can't imagine what would possess them to go bother the hens. They are too big to fit into the chicken tractor. Wait, that's it - I'll move the Wellies into the tractor & the guins into the growout pen for a couple of weeks. Yep, that'll work! thanks, Julie!

Oh yes, my turkey hens are worst than the Toms. The turkey hens will rip the leg off of something if they are mad enough. They would beat a rooster to a pulp if they were mad enough. When I am in the yard, I have to keep an eye out for them.

Terri, if that doesn't work and you have to make guinea gumbo, I can always get a couple dozen guinea eggs to you for hatching. I have to catch mine from the chicken yard and and pen them up so that I can start collecting eggs for hatching.

Let me know how it goes.

Good Luck!
