LOL you're correct there Terri but I do have a cousin that is retired now, he lived in Wyoming when he retired form his life long career, but now he spends the winter months here in La. (at home) and the hot months in Wyoming(his house) he's doing alright I'd reckon.

What type of turkeys are you hatching?? Any of them gonna be for sale? Do you sell eggs?Sorry, guys, I have been up to my ears in.......well, rain, rain and more rain.....12 inches in 2 days, now a couple days of fog and maybe a little sunshine and then more rain. In the middle of all this the barns were waterfront property and some looked like boathouses in the water. Then 2 customers came by to buy Rouen ducks! Fun catching them in the rain, too.
As far as my Experiment with hatching the Goose eggs that had been refrigerated. And the turkey egg hatching, Well, 7 out of the 8 goose eggs were not fertile and the 8th that was in the frig 10 days after the Pa Pa goose was eaten, did not make it. It started to develop and died. Egg laid 10 days after last mating and egg 10 days in the fridge was just too long. Now I have to get another Brown African Gander and Start all over again. The Geese I ordered from Ideal were supposed to be Brown African, but they sent me Brown Chinese, and won't even answer me emails!!!!!And these Brown Chinese are very aggressive compared to my gentile Brown African, even if they do both come from China!!1 I will never order from Ideal Again, after all the business I gave those people!!
As far as the turkey eggs go, well, the very first egg that was laid, was not fertile and since I have 13 males with13 females, and had not been able to separate them and had not seen them mating, I assumed, very few if any would be fertile!!! So, I kept putting them into the incubator as they were laid. Silly me, I know, had every one of them hatching out. I have 8 of them in the brooder in the extra bathroom, and a few more every day, for the next few weeks. It looks like all of them are fertile, ALL 91 OF THEM !!!!!!I'm just a gluten for punishment! I am getting 4 to 6 fertile eggs a day from the turkeys, very few from the chickens, maybe 5 or 6 a day? I guess the chickens don't like this dreary weather!??
I have some ADULT ROUEN DUCKS for sale, just PM me if you're interested. They should start laying again by next month, if you rather have eggs.

Good morning everyone. This weather is so depressing. I hope that everyone is ok. Welcome to any newcomers. Hello to all old tymers. Good luck to all hatchers. Stay dry to all wet Lay-ers. Be careful to all who are rebuilding coops and runs. Drive safe to Terri and everyone who is on that road. Sending out good vibes and prayers to Mal. Sending hugs and healthy vibes to all of the wet chickens and other farm critters at your places. And thanks for everyone who wished me congrats or offered kind words on the turkey hatch. They little stinkers are doing great. Their wings look like they have grown an inch in 1 week. They will be flying out of their brooder by the end of next week. Time to find something else for them.
I am collecting more eggs and will be placing another batch in the bator just as soon as fill all the orders that are coming in. I need to stock up on cleaning supplies because my back room will soon look like a zoo. :/

Hi. It sure is wet and cold, which is worse than when it was wet and not cold!
I closed up the chickens in the coop at dark last night as usual. This morning early, barely dawn, I opened the coop and there were two eggs in there on the floor of the coop (they usually lay in their little laying house in the nesting box). One egg was normal, but the other was very soft. like a VERY thin balloon, paper thin. I'm posting a foto of it. Okay, I went on BYC and read a lot about soft shell eggs. I got home at about 4:00 this afternoon and there were hard shelled eggs in the laying house. Now I have one MORE eggs than I have chickens, meaning that the chicken that laid the soft egg also laid a hard egg, both today. Is that wierd???? Also, can you eat soft shelled eggs? I haven't opened it, but I would have to just use a knife.

Most of the time this ends up being a double yolker but sometimes you get the occasional soft shell egg. It is perfectly fine to eat and actually a treat to find one, as usually by nature the hen(s) are supposed to eat it anyway as it is no good for reproduction and would be better off back in the system than wasted or eaten by a rascally varmint.

Thanks, Jeff. I was worried because my RIR's little flaps by her ears were really pale (almost white) and I wondered if it was related or if she had frost bite (although I wasn't sure how).
