Thanks, Jeff. I was worried because my RIR's little flaps by her ears were really pale (almost white) and I wondered if it was related or if she had frost bite (although I wasn't sure how). Yesterday afternoon her flaps were a little redder. I am learning so much!!![]()
Frostbite will be black/dark purple. The reason for the earlobes/combs/wattles may not be real bright red this time of the year is because the blood flow is what turns them "redder" and beings its cooler now their radiators don't need to work so hard to regulate their temps so therefore duller appearing combs,wattles and lobes. Also too alot of hatchery type reds(RIR/production reds, NH, and RSL) will have a whitish hue to the earlobes anyway as they have a lot of Leghorn influence in their makeup/genetic backgrounds.

I don't think they wanted to go there with ME. I will always provide the BEST level of care for ALL of my animals. So Terri, please do what you have to do for your babies. Some of us get it.
