Hi all. Just finished reading the last few pages in the thread, to get to know everyone a little.
I'm in Baton Rouge, as in close to the Lakehouse off of Old Hammond, by the old golf course that's been shut down forever. Or, close to Old Hammond & Flannery, whichever sounds better.
Having said that... I remember reading last year about only being able to have like 3 or 4 chickens if I live in city limits? I tried looking today, and I couldn't find the url where I'd read that.
So... anyone around here know the rules on how many non-dogs/cats I can have?
My yard isn't very large, but three sides of it have like 7'+ brick walls for fences, and the back fence faces the field that was once a gold course; so, I have a lot of privacy. I don't want to get in over my head, I DO want to start off small and slow; but, I tend to get carried away.
Whatever I have needs to not be excessively loud or smelly. My goals are to be able to have meat/protein in my diet without having to resort to factory meats. I have two (koi) ponds which don't really have any fish (one has a group of crawfish that show up in the summer time); I was thinking i could incorporate one (or both) for ducks or something.
Last year I started gardening. Think I've semi-got the hang of that. I have what amounts to a small rose garden, herb garden, various veggies in random places throughout the year, and several fruit trees and bushes.
Ok, that was a whole lot of different things I through out there. Not sure if this is the right place for ALL those questions; but, the amounts of critters I can have would be a great starting point for my future self-sustainable planning. Thanks in advance! you guys already sound very friendly and helpful!
