"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Just joined from St.Charles parish but moved to Kentwood back in July 2012. I live on land that has been in the family for over 100 years. And started raising chickens to help with bugs I have 2 horses and use to stall them at a boarding stable & was told to always keep chickens around to help out with the flies. So I got me 8 then I went back & 6 more chicks. They or now laying & I'm having fun so I bought 12 more!

:welcome

How about if I let you know when I have extra goslings? I've sold eggs in the past but didn't plan to sell any this year unless I get overwhelmed with eggs. I'm watching for what turns out in my hatch. I lost my buff saddleback goose this past summer and will be watching for another buff saddleback goose to replace her. I'm also watching for a solid buff gosling. Three of my ganders are split to buff/saddleback, two other ganders I have a strong suspicion are carrying the buff gene. Another one of my ganders is either blue or lavendar. I'll be watching to see what his offspring look like. Long story short, I'll be wanting to get rid of some goslings later this spring/summer, however, I want to pick through them first.
Sounds good to me! And I'm still on the hunt for a lav orp cockerel...if I find one, you'll be first on my list for a little fellow!

Those fotos made my Monday!! I love to start the week with a good laugh. They are beautiful!

Thanks Primrose....little booger heads or not, I really enjoy them!

We get a lot of frogs, too. I keep an eye out for turtles, though, because they will eat the feet off of a small duck, if it is a big enough turtle!
Thanks....we do keep an eye out for those and water mocs: Neither are welcome here. Had a great weekend and despite the rain in the forecast...the temps look nice for the upcoming week! My main garden was FINALLY dry enough to get the disc in it again this afternoon: Good thing since their is a lot of rain in the upcoming week's forecast. I have to have that field ready when it is time to plant. I have almost 400 starts (tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants) that are going to need out of my house in another 4-5 weeks! I can't wait to get out there and get planting! We had to move a row of trees in our orchard, which took most of the afternoon today: My husband wants to extend the goat pasture and those trees would have been lunch. We also planted more citrus. Now, all I have to do is get the grapes moved tomorrow if it isn't raining and build a trellis for some thornless blackberries we want to try. I went to Tractor Supply and picked up another Little Giant styrofoam bator and egg turner Saturday morning: That makes three of them in addition to my Brinsea. They have them on sale till mid-April for $10 off and I needed more incubator space since I went nuts and ordered a bunch of hatching eggs. I am getting two dozen eggs from Frank Reese at Good Shepherd (1 dz Barred Rocks, and 1 Dz Cornish mixed Dark and White Laced), 1 Dz Duckworth Barred Rocks (from the line Skyline auctions off on eBay), 1 Dz Padgett WL Cornish, and a dozen German New Hampshires....in addition to all the Buff Saddleback Pomeranian goose eggs I ordered (Not counting the ones from my birds) and all the Beltsville turkey eggs. I already have chicks and poults everywhere. :clap The geese are being loud little boogers now that breeding season is here. So far, I am only getting eggs from one of my 8 girls, but everyone is actively mating and nests are starting to be made so it is only time. I have the Pomeranians blocked out of the front pasture and pond so I could put my Toulouse out there. Since I interrupted their regular routine, they must be bored and have decided to cause trouble. After I let them out and they steal scratch from the chickens they go to the pond and their pasture. By lunch, they come marching from the pond and come to harass the dogs: The whole time trying to reach through the fence to steal any toys they see. Then they wander back to the barn and stop to make sure their stalls are still in there and then off to the orchard. When they are done there, they do the whole thing in reverse...all while honking their heads off....lol. Here are a couple pictures of some of my "gang". Pestering the dogs.... Headed for the pond. Have a good week everybody!
Looks like heaven over there at your place.:love Lovely pics!!! Beautiful. I bet they are even more beautiful in the pond! Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

They are pretty when they are floating around in there. Sadly, they are only staying in just long enough to mate and bathe these days. The rest of the day is spent making their rounds, harassing the dogs, peeking in the back door, and yelling at the Toulouse through the fence. LOL.

This is a view of our place from our driveway gate (tubular farm gate...nothing fancy). Anyway, the little brown structure on the right of the drive in the trees, is one of my goose/duck coops and the small pond the Poms use (the one they were marching toward in the photo). On the left, behind the bar, but in front of our house, is the second pond where I have the Toulouse and most of the ducks right now. The geese get about 4 of the 7 acres to wander on

This is the smaller pond and larger shelter. You can see our other duck/goose house in the background.

Do peacocks fan for no reason or is it because of some stimulus?

Trust me they would! You and your hammock are welcome any time. Just avoid goose breeding season because you won't find any peace at my place, let alone quiet.
