I have some heritage reds, easter eggers, wheaten ameraucanas, silkies, and basque eggs hatching in the next week.  Yesterday I hatched a beautiful little chick from a cross--my emu looking gold laced wyandotte over my lavender orp girls--this chick is a dark lavender and has the rose comb like the wyandottes.  Perhaps I can work some crosses from this generation back to the wyandottes to get lavender wyandottes going.  It is a beautiful little chick.  Three more in the incubator due to hatch later this week, too.

I have to get all these chicks hatched soon so I'll have room to add in the turkey eggs next week.

*sigh*  Then I PROMISE I am going to leave the incubators empty until I get those Pea eggs.  Well, okay,...I may add a chick or two while I'm waiting...

Too funny!

What did you set so far?

My goose eggs went on lock down last night but I don't think any will hatch. This will be my 1st time trying to hatch goose eggs. Incubating goose eggs is like fighting with the devil. It ain't pretty. It is nothing like chicken eggs (cooling, misting, weighing, cooling, misting, weighing)

I had 11 goose eggs in the bator but only 4 were fertile. Out of those 4, dumb dumb stupid me cracked one egg when I didn't set it right and tried to put the top back on and it cracked the egg. Another one is too small, so I don't think it will hatch. So that only leaves 2 eggs to possibly hatch and those were eggs that were put in a couple days after I set the 1st eggs. Oh well. It is what it is.

While waiting on the peas to start laying, I guess I will fill up the incubator with chicken eggs (for practice) and hope that the peas give me at least 21 days before they start laying.

If all goes well, I hope to get some roosters for the freezer.

Are pea eggs like chicken only longer? I wasn't sure if I needed to do the misting/cooling stuff with those, too.

Yes, they are bigger and longer. It takes about 28 days to hatch pea eggs. So, it's a little longer than chicken eggs. No misting or cooling required for pea eggs. I think that I layed the eggs on their sides in the incubator. Terri will chime in on positioning when she logs on. And as I was collecting eggs, I turned them 2 - 3 times a day. Some people say higher humidity than normal but I don't know about that.

How long till the other mare is ready to deliver a gorgeous bundle of four legged cuteness? Also, on a more human note....did you make it through last night without the 3rd Ms. Herzog making her grand debut? If so, man alive you better get some sleep...cause you are going to need it!

The paint mare didn’t take last year so we only have the one baby this year from the palomino. When I said…one down and one to go I was referring to the one mare and Lindsay, LOL! We will be going to the Hospital for Lindsay on Thursday morning if not sooner!!

Okay. My normal chicken procedure is on a turner and then I hatch in cartons upright. Just let me know what to do. My concern with hand turning is that I'm gone to work from 6 am until 5 pm...they won't be turned at all for 11 hours until I get in. I could turn at 5:30, again at 5 when I get in, then again at bedtime, but that's the best I can do during the week.

I got a gift on Sunday from a wonderful guy I've been talking to online. He came to the Covington swap from Plauncheville, and gave me a trio of LF White Laced Red Cornish that are all about 10 months old: So, still have a good bit of growing and filling out to do. They already weigh quite a bit: I need to get them officially weighed today I hope. I can tell that the rooster is heavier than my current dark Cornish Roos that weigh around 9 pound just by picking him up. These are really nice birds and I am blessed to be their new chicken mama.

Why thanks for the compliments Sandy but in all reality, they(the chickens) deserve all the credits as I didn't have much say so or choice on most of the matters, LOL they mostly did it all on their OWN, whether I wanted them to or not LOL
