"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hahahahaha! I only asked because I'm originally from Newton Texas.... Not far from you either. Right across toledo bend dam.
These Welsummers you speak of..... How old? Lol
I got them in a weak moment of chicken math. I think I have 6 of them--two cockerels and 4 pullets. I believe they are 6 weeks. In my decision to downsize breeds I decided I'd be happy with my brown marans eggs and let the Welsummers go.

Well I will say that I don't work far from Newton. I'll tell you when you get chicks. I just don't think I'll broadcast it here. I'm sure those teachers there would appreciate the beverage recipe, too.

those Marans eggs are so pretty! Can't wait to start getting some!

Dang! Too bad I just spent all my chicken budget on my new incubator! I would have loved to buy them from you

My Wellies should be laying nice sized eggs by end of summer if you're still interested then! Mine are Grisham lines from two different flocks -- my "older" girls are 4 years old, G-2 from my original stock, & my young ones are coming on 4 months now.

That will be great Terri! I have about 15 or so chicks growing out right now, so once they are big enough to hit the ground I will be looking to get some eggs. I'll let you know when I have the space!

I got the hatching eggs from a local lady. The pictures of her birds looked nice, and I was very happy with the egg color. They were a rich terra cotta. I only wish they would have had a few more spots on them!

Are your birds easily sexable at hatch by their down color? I know some nice are, and some aren't.

Mine are totally sexable at birth -- the females have the very dark, distinctive 'V' chipmunk mark on their heads & the males are very light reddish, 'blurry" - you can tell as soon as they dry off. This is one of the reasons I chose to stick w/my Wellies & also my Cuckoo Marans - they are also sexable at hatch - my CM males are very pale & the females very dark. My CMs may not be to the SOP - not sure -- Russ breeds for egg color - they are very dark eggs, all of them, which is what I prefer & will continue to breed for.

Great! That is what I'm looking for! How much do you charge for a dozen?

I got rid of a lot of stuff in the fall that wasn't working out for me. The only adults I have are a few mutt laying hens, and my silkies/sizzles. I am growing out some more Black Minorca chicks, Easter Eggers, and Welsummers. I am trying to get my colorful egg basket back! If the EEs lay a nice blue egg, then I will keep breeding them for that. If they dont, then I think I will just use them for an Olive Egger Project.

Look what came in the mail yesterday! It was holding temperature within a tenth of a degree after only an hour of being plugged in! I can open it up, mess with my eggs, and it is back up to temperature withing minutes! The quality is absolutely FANTASTIC! Words cannot express how pleased I am with Hatchcraftincubators.com The incubator is very heavy and well made. It even has a power strip inside for me to plug autoturners into it.

The got him to make me one with drawers so I can hand turn my goose eggs. The drawers can be removed and replaced with autoturners for when I hatch my chicken eggs. I was going to wait until after my geese stop laying to buy the autoturners, but I think the hubby felt sorry for me after losing the lamb so he order three of them for me last night

Some ladies like jewlery, and some like incubator equipment!

Don't mind my mess! I destroyed that foam packaging trying to get this thing unwrapped!

I already have a few goose eggs in here. I will be setting at least 8 more goose eggs when I get home. Hopefully these will all be fertile! It's my goal to have this puppy filled up by the weekend!

A coworker of mine has a bunch of Peking ducks, and she wanted to do an experiment. She is giving me 3 dozen eggs. One dozen will be straight out of the nest (no washing, refrigerating, etc.), the second dozen will be washed but kept at room temperature, and the third will be straight from the nest and into the refrigerator without any washing. We want to see just how much these things effect hatch rates. I'm always up for an experiment! Especially when it involves the possibility of free ducklings as my reward
