"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thank you Chris and Mrs. Magoo for the update. I went back a little on this site and wow, a lot of info. Kind of overwhelming ,but really
Informative . Now that I have some chicks, do u guys think I should go with the FF? The guy at the feed store gave me medicated
Chicken starter. Which way to go, any advice would be helpful. Like should I use up the medicated and the start the FF after it's gone
Or make up some FF now and start feeding them ASAP . Glad your dog is back. . And I hope everybody's critters stay heathy.
Well have a productive day and enjoy a beautiful day

I feed medicated chick starter crumbles from hatch to about 4 months old then switch then to non-medicated chick starter and feed that another couple months. If it's a bird I plan on showing....they stay on that for about a year but if it's just a hen for eggs I put them on a layer feed at 6 months.

A buddy of mine feeds the (FF) feed to his birds. In January I ordered a bunch of birds (chicks) to get a couple of birds that I can show and use as breeders and gave him a handful of these chicks. So we both had chicks the same age, same type and from the same person. There is no comparison between how his birds grew and feathered out compared to how my birds grew and feathered out. This convinced me that a good chick starter is the way to go for what I want to do with my birds anyway.

I'd stay with the chick starter too. At about 4 months I add in gamebird crumble which is what I feed my peacocks - it is a higher protein content, I mix it 50-50 w/the starter until they are about 6 months when they go into my laying flock.

Yes there is a swap Sunday at O'Keefe Feed and Seed that starts at 10am. Here is the Face Book page for that group. You can get all the dates for their sales here.

Gracie on here told me that she was going to drive over for the sale and was going to be bringing Silkies.

Chris

Not going to make it to this one Chris, but I may make the next one! I won't be back from Dallas until tomorrow afternoon. I can also bring the chicks to the swap if anyone is going. Just send me a PM if interested.

And no luck on the mallard hens yet Chris. I've been looking, but mostly just a bunch of males and ducklings around here right now.

I'm a newb when it comes to chickens but have had a great time so far, acquiring the 3 I have now was a pleasure and knowing others have chickens nearby is awesome. But nobody so far has blue egg layers. Easter eggers? Can someone point me in the direction of where to get a blue egg layer pullet? I'm looking to add a gal to my mini flock and I saw I could order them online but shipping just seems so stressful and I only need one not a dozen lol :( I'm in baton rouge. Figured it couldn't hurt to ask! I'm not set up for chicks is why I was looking for a pullet or hen.

I wouldn't even know where to tell you to look. Sounds like you all have combed the area. That worries me. I know I'm not much help at all but I hope he returns home safely. Just keep king and definitely calling out his name VERY loud.

X2. Celie. So sad. Is there any kind of animal rescue/shelter around there, or in the town? Someone might have found him and brought him there. My heart and prayers are with you.

So, my bad day got worse when I got home. I have a blue Wyandotte hen that's been laying on some eggs and apparently one hatched today (a few days early) and I found it dead in the water when I got home. Poor little thing drowned. I feel terrible. It was cute too... All black but with a yellow stomach.
I'm so sorry to hear that.

Bear is home!!! We don't know where he was, but after an extensive search, we took a short break and was sitting on the sofa, having a cup of coffee and planning our next move, when Hubby heard crying on the porch. I can't hear very well any more, and he was afraid to let me open the door to find a badly hurt or dying dog, that I helped his mother birth, when she was having trouble getting him born,. so he said nothing, excused himself and went outside to investigate. A minute later, here comes Bear, with his head very low and hurried to his bed, without saying anything, or greeting anyone, not even his sister. He knew he had done wrong and went to give himself a time out in his bed. Of course, I went immediately to see if he was injured. He was fine, but won't utter a word as to where he went!

He stayed in bed a long while, in dog time, and then came into the kitchen, saw I was still upset and went back to bed. He will not have doggie door privileges for the rest of the day! I told him if it ever happens again, he will have his collar taken away for a day! He is very proud of his dog collar. I think he feels like it is his membership to our family. When he gets his bath, we take his collar off , while he is in the tub and if it doesn't go back on as soon as he gets out he gets up[set, looks for it and will bring it to us with a whimper, until it goes back on! Well, just wanted to let everyone know he is safely back home again.
