"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I had an unexpected surprise today. One of my sebbie goslings hatched while on the rocker in my incubator. By the time I noticed, it had hatched and was all fluffed up and cute. It was sitting patiently on the rocker waiting for someone to do something.

I had it scheduled to hatch on the 20th. I'm not quite sure what happened. I must have mismarked the egg because I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't have hatched this early. Sometimes, it seems that even though you do everything according to plan things just don't pan out, other times, they'll hatch no matter what you do to them. Mother nature..., you gotta love it!

Hi all busy busy trying to get all caught up is rough hope alls enjoying the great weather :)

Happy Sunday everyone!

Grambyfarm--congrats on the surprise sebbie! I want pics! I'm waiting dThosesperately for someone to offer some to me.

We processed 5 chickens yesterday and have finished two new coops -- except for the wiring, which we'll do tomorrow evening. Whew! Funny thing about the birds we processed...

Dear Hubby's ex wife wanted to buy chicks from me a while back. Of course, thinking of the kids, I sold her several cochins at a much lower price than I'd have gotten elsewhere. She called two weeks ago saying she had also bought 30 birds at the same time from another lady (who will remain nameless at this point) and they all died and made my chicks sick. So she traded the cochins to some man for 5 other birds. Turned out to be fat white cornish and were almost 6 months old. She called me wanting to know if I would trade her the 5 meat birds for a grown LAVENDER ORPINGTON!!!!! Sorry...no. A week later, oldest stepdaughter (who is grown) calls and says she has some meat birds she doesn't want to deal with and would we come get them. So, to make a long story short, I have meat resting in the fridge. I still have all of my lavender orpingtons. Some people....

Those birds took two of us to hold while hubby skinned them. At six months they were huge! One breast would feed two of us easily. That was serious work.

too bad you weren't doing that, say, next Sunday. Lol. I'd love to watch and learn from someone experienced. A friend of mine got some Cornish Rocks from TSC (she didn't know what they were) and I told her what they were and promised her that when the time came, I'd help her send them to freezer camp

Yummy -- fresh chicken! It doesn't get any better than that. I have a few hens that I need to process because they're getting old.
I have Lavendar Orpingtons due to hatch this week. It's the long way around to get a rooster.

On the sebbies, I have 7 goslings so far and hope to hatch several more. I expect that I'll be hatching sebbies until the end of May. What I plan to do is keep them all until the end of my hatching season, then, I'll spend a little time sorting out what I have and what I'll plan to keep for myself to improve my breeding program. I have some placed but hope to have extras for sale. I have about 30 eggs in my incubator right now that are developing so I'll have to wait and see what hatches. In addition, I have 5 of my geese that are still laying but I don't know for how much longer. With the gaggle of geese that I have my goslings could be either smooth breasted or curly breasted in either white, gray, buff, splash, gray saddleback, or buff saddleback. I'll post pics periodically so that you can see their progress.
