"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I have horses & 2 very large water tubs in pasture for them & 1 medium one in my yard that the dogs, cats & chickens drink out of. I have found a squirrels drowned in the horse tubs, so I put a stick in them so that small wild animals can drink & get out of tub. and a brick in the smaller one in my yard for the frogs & lizards. A lot better than having to dump water tubs to get dead stinking animals out. And I also keep gold fish in the tubs they eat the mosquitos / wigglers and the algae

Great idea!

For all of you who have open coops/runs without an actual coop building....how do the bantam sized birds fare during our few cold winter months? We are building coops constantly and I need another for the silkies/showgirls. I was just concerned if built it with a solid top, pallets down the back and both sides, but totally open otherwise--would they freeze? They need air in the summer.

Do you all tarp them in winter?

Not sure. All of my coops have roofs. Sorry.

These will have a roof on them, just totally wire fronts and pallet sides with wire around the pallets.  i guess I'm asking if the bantams will need a solid walled building with a door.

I have one enclosed (walled) coop, but the others are mostly open with a side or 2 made up of a wooden fence (not truly walled because of the airflow). I just hang tarps to block the wind when the temps drop. I've had no problems so far.

Do you mean something similar to this? I think your bantys will be ok. I have open air coops and have had bantys for about 8 years, so yours will do just fine. The love to snuggle up with the older birds and keep warm.

ETA: And I do use tarps when it is too cold or when it REALLY REALLY rains hard.
