I have a few nh reds they are three weeks old and a few of them has a lil black speck on there beaks is this something i should be worried about ?

Could be fowl pox, is there anyway you can post pictures? I had an outbreak about 2 years ago with my birds and Kuntrygurl talked me through it. It's not going to be fun, I put iodine on my birds everyday for a week or so. But the good news is... Once they have had it, they can't get it again.

Can someone explain this to me? In this situation, the thought of tossing the eggs wouldn't have even crossed my mind.

The amprolium(coccidiostat)/medication that is in the chick starter/grower is such a low percentage I think a hen would have to eat a gob of it to have a toxic enough amount to be concerned about. I would use/eat the eggs or as suggested at least feed them back to the chicks or dogs or hatch them.

It's so wierd (pun intended). I just didn't think I would become SO passionate about something in my 60's, something new. But, I stood in a neighbor's backyard and saw his chickens walking across the yard to their coop in the light of the setting sun rays and I was smitten, in love, obcessed, crazy and, yes, wierd...and then along came the chicken people, and I was home.

I just saw that on another forum and didn't understand why the eggs shouldn't be eaten if they only got into a small amount. Thanks for clarifying for me even thought I wasn't the OP.

Johnny--the only boots I've seen used with chickens is for correcting foot/toe problems. Otherwise--no idea.
