"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I also like the idea of bees, but they would have to be FAR away from the house. A dog or something bothers them and they come out. Oh no. Not worth it if someone gets stung.

How much water can these birds drink! I am 90% sure my waterer is leaking. I can go out an hour after filling it and its dry. Then other times it'll last all day (but I change it often when I'm there because they stand on top and poop in the water) It's a big TSC waterer.

Terri - Did you mention a few pages back you were running a chicken workshop (can't remember exactly what you said) this weekend?

I'll be doing two chicken workshops Saturday at the Lunch & Learn event at the store. We're going to move the chicken bus close by. It's only basic information - nothing you don't already know for sure! - just info for people who want to get started with a little backyard flock. I'll have some of the chicks crated up to show off the breeds - cochins, blue andalusian, marans, etc. Debating on touring the barn as well. Right now praying it doesn't rain! Workshops are hour long events & cost is $10. Lunch is $7 (roasting some pigs, slaw & pasta salad).

Your waterer does sound like it's leaking -- check your seal & be sure it's completely secure all the way around. Run a piece of wire (clothes hanger or something) on top so they won't perch on it.

If I didn't have my monthly workshop to go to, I would be there Terri. :hit I hope that I can attend your next workshop. Makes me want to go for the lunch as well. :drool

I have some two hour workshops in the planning stages - will let you know when!
Right now dragging my grooming table out under the carport since it looks like rain - again -- so I can give the dogs haircuts and baths!

They started raising crawfish too -- they threw us all a big crawfish boil the other day - those crawfish were huge! and delicious!

Hey, I saw a post on the DIY thread where they glued and upside down funnel on top of the waterer and feeder and no more poop in the water. It worked great and cheap.

Thanks Julie....you didn't miss it...I didn't post it on here: I put it in the New Hampshire thread. Jeff imported it from there to over here. Since CatDaddy let the Cat out of the bag so to speak...here is the low down.

It was my first time showing and luckily it wasn't a very big show (the one in Jennings this past weekend): Less than 200 birds total and about 2/3 of them were bantams. I took three birds: My New Hampshire rooster, a standard White Laced Red Cornish cockeral, and a Red Dorking cockeral.

The Cornish won Champion English, the Red Dorking was Reserve Champion English. The New Hampshire won Champion American and Reserve Champion Large Fowl. Plus, I took 1st and 3rd in the colored egg show and overall 3rd place for that. Nobody, not even Chris, was more shocked than I was. You could have knocked me over with a feather.

Here are the other two birds I took:

WOWSERS!! Congrats! I guess that means you are hooked now, right?

Been looking at cages for the rabbits we are getting and I'm not happy with the cheap junk heaps I'm finding in the stores. I think we'll be buying wire and making our own. Suggestions?

*sigh* My 18 year old just moved into his own place. When did I get this old? The more I think about all this mess; the more wine I drink.

It's a public service--I must keep my mood mellow so I don't choke anyone!

I will *try* to find some pics of the one my dad made me.... It was very well made and very heavy! I did the rabbit thing for 4H back in the day. It was one large hutch, but had three separate runs & houses. One end had two, and the other end just had one big one. I'll have to see if I can find pictures.

And I'm all for a reason to drink more wine!!

PLUS -- I put some goose eggs in the incubator this morning!! I can't wait!! They all look like they made the trip good. Only had one "partially" detached air sac. I'm keeping my finger crossed as this is my first attempt with shipped eggs and the first time I've hatched eggs in about 6 years.

CONGRATS !!!!!!!!!! That is WONDERFUL NEWS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAY TO GO !!!!!!!!! :celebrate That is definitely something to be VERY proud of !!! :bow Good luck with the goose eggs. :fl My goose eggs go on lock down on Saturday. I think I had 7 out of 9 that were fertile. I don't think that I need any more geese because I am having good luck with them hatching under my broodys. This is my first year having this much luck. Every year has been a learning experience with these goose eggs and every year I have been doing something different and it seems to be working this year.
