Use the search feature here on BYC and put "cross beak" in. You will see lots of differing opinions.....take your pick. Most don't end well but it's up to you how much time and effort you want to commit.

While I think DE is a great preventative, I use Sevin Dust when it sounds that bad. You want those things gone quick! I've dusted chicks that were only a few weeks old. You should be fine.

Also, be sure to separate them from your healthy birds, and dust EVERYTHING at your place. If you have a lot of area to cover then get the Sevin liquid concentrate. You can dilute it in a spray bottle or pump sprayer and go to town! Goes farther and is cheaper if you have a big area to cover. Be careful when spraying birds so you don't get it in their eyes.

I have a cross beak who is several years old now & has always done quite well - if it gets bad enough you can trim it - there is info about it if you do search in the disease & injuries section.
