"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Howdy! A new "La-yer" here. Finishing up building my coop now, I was stuck in between buying one or building my own. It feels so much more satisfying building my own- very proud of it so far.

I have a few concerns though: if the interior of my coop is big enough and if my roosts are positioned correctly. I will only by housing two hens but I don't know what breed yet. But I am so excited to have some hens to raise since I have been wanting to do this for months and had to convince my boyfriend they wouldn't be a nusiance.

Hurrah!
welcome! You will love it here. What part of the state are you in? (North, South, East, West??) What do you want to get out of the chickens (eggs or meat)? Do you want a rooster (fertilized eggs to hatch)? Do you want colored eggs or just big delicious eggs everyday? Do you want to raise them from hatch? This thread is always happy to help. They saved the lives of my critters more than once. And, yes, post a foto of your coup. Congratulations!!

I knew that there was something I wanted to tell everyone. Out of the 5 lambs that I have, 4 of them are BOYS !!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing going on here except I am downsizing my chicken flock & not planning on setting any eggs this summer - just too busy w;/the new job & new routine.

Welcome!! You'll love it here! 2 hens huh? Don't guess you've heard about chicken math yet. Lol. It'll get ya.. Especially with all the enablers here.

Thanks for the welcomes! I live in New Orleans, I will be buying fully grown ones for the first round as I am starting this primarily for the eggs (any color).

What's chicken math by the way?

Hahahaha. I even looked that up! I heard they have heart and leg issues ..I thought well if I take good care of them then just quick process when they keel over...I can do that...then I researched it, nope lol gotta do the deed 'before'. Dang it :hmm

OMG!! Poor people at the BBQ who saw the headless chicken running around. :hit

If I got meaties, I would have to wait for them to drop dead in the chicken yard and then I would go out and pick them up and process them.

Soooo true, chicken math.....bahahaha nobody warned me- consider this your warning! I'llbe hiding chickens soon, I just NEED a few more, they're so addictive, Im dreaming of chicks and eggs and having nightmares about processing one myself lol. .

I am so looking forward to this weekend. My better half has said he will have time for us to work on the hen houses. The old one is in need of updates! And the new chicken tractor needs an egg laying area and maybe door modifications as well. I so wish I did not have to wait around so often for his schedule to open up to get a project done.........I think God may be trying to teach me something :/ Happy Friday everyone!

Just read some chicken math threads and I'll expect I will have the urge to sneak a few more chickies in as soon as I get the hang of raising them.
