Hey guys, I was just perusing around the internet looking for a dna website to sex my chicks ( I read about this on the "Silkie Thread"). I found a few that ranged from 10 to 25 dollars. I just ordered 3 for my 2 cochins and my silkie! SOOOOOOOO excited.! You fill out the info on the website (mailing info and such). They mail you how many kits you want and then you pay for the results, I'm assuming because they didn't ask for payment info. I used the one that was $10 per chick. Here's the website I used.

Can't wait and I will post as soon as I find out!

This is my 2 week cochin. S/He was white fluff when I got her at 3 days old and pretty much still white but the feathers are getting a little black in them now! I thought it was going to be solid white but now I'm not so sure. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Holey poop! Has anyone else ever see bug like this. First one was in my truck while driving, freaked out. Look like a cross between a fly, mosquito and wasp lol. Researched it and is commonly called a robber fly. They feed on wasp and bees and other insects. Check it out on Wiki http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asilidae. Theya little over an inch long

I wonder if that's the same site that pea fowl people send off the feathers of their peas to sex them. Will have to ask Terri.

So much cute-ness!!!! Well, except for the bug pic. I have seen those but never knew what they were, so its nice to know.

That little Cochin is the cutest ever, and the keets peaking out!!! Adorable.

So I guess I spoke a day too soon about my little Silkie that I thought was a boy. Because this morning he has been identified as all BOY!!! Rusty crow and all. So now I have to decide who is coming out of there. There has been squabbling. Though I may not always see it in person, I see the evidence on them. They seem to behave pretty well when they see me coming......probably hoping for treats

as I often bring them something. I am thinking that the smaller one will come out. The bigger boy (who my girls had named "Pouf" but I think that "Big Sexy" is more appropriate with the attitude on this little guy) is just so much more fluffy and full. Full of sass too. It cracks me up when these little ones stamp there feet at me. A full size rooster would get the cone for doing that. Well, all except the one that is my daughters favorite. I am worried one of these days he is REALLY, REALLY going to tag me good.......and I bet my daughter will be doctorin' me up saying, "But Mom, I watched him hatch from the egg!"

I also do see the point of not jumping to getting rid of one of the little Silkie roosters. But their enclosure has 4 locks and is a very solid fully enclosed, on wheels tractor. And we just have a backyard flock, so we have limited room in the small tractor.

I am happy to say that we have added to our little flock of full size hens. I picked up 4 big fat hens from Terri yesterday evening. (Plus a little Americauna banty hen, just because my girls said Awww) They made the trip home (20minutes) very nicely. It was very nice to meet Terri and her husband. Apparently my husband knew them from way back from a job he had when we first got married and through mutual friends. Small world, huh?! I gave her some jam, pickles and soap.......hope she likes them! Her Peacocks are amazing!!! Very cool patterns!

Hope you all are having a great day!

My girls are losing feathers. Where they are losing them they look like plucked chickens, totally bald except for those little feather "socket" skin bumps. They were a year old last April and have never molted. Is this what molting looks like??
