Is it Friday yet? I'm looking forward to kids superman having an extra day off.

3 day weekend...no school Monday!!!! I'm not sure who's more excited, me or the kids. I know we've only been in school since August 8th, but it seems LONGER!!!!!!!!

We are the butt state, they never look at us. If they did we might actually be able to find out what those random unusual creatures were in pastures and swamps (like the spider I have that is the size of a daddy long legs, looks like a crab shell, and is black with yellow strips). If the weather man would ever move they might see us...

OH my GOODNESS!!!!   I have seen that one!  I always think,  WHAT IN THE BLAZES KIND of spider IS THAT??!!!  So weird.

Did I miss that pic? Who has a pic of the spider? What's the name of the spider?

Wow! Ya'll have posted so much today I had a lot of reading to day!! Let me start with I 'm Ron's wife. In the future I'll let you know it's me by writing P for Pam no p it's Ron. Our company is really busy right now so I've been keeping up with reading the posts keeping him up to date. Not a easy task the last few days. If anyone is really serious about outdoor kitchens we've built quite a few this year so far. We have a masonry company . I can't believe I learned what twerking is on a chicken forum!! My side is hurting from all the laughing ! Can't wait for the video on u tube.

I have not seen any videos of them moving, but I can't imagine they would without a lot of pain. Other links have said that they kept cross breeding until they got this and then stabilized it for breeding.

Not sure why I share this, except I'm feeling a little bitter sweet (crying like a baby). There are two horses that I feed morning and night that live just down the road a little ways. Their owners live in New Orleans and the people that were supposed to be caring for them were not. So, I ended up taking over their feedings several years ago. These are two OLD palominos. One in his 20's and the other approaching 35!! We knew his time was coming, and yesterday he didn't come running up for his feed like he normally does. Again, the same thing last night. It's his time. I called his owner, the vet and the trac hoe guy for burial. The vet and his owner are there now. He's not my horse, but he's been there for as long as I can remember. Swayback Sandy. He's had a good life, a long life. Poor Odie his pasture mate for all these years. I feel so sad and so silly, because he HAS had such a good life.

Their owners live in New Orleans and the people that were supposed to be caring for them were not. So, I ended up taking over their feedings several years ago. These are two OLD palominos. One in his 20's and the other approaching 35!! We knew his time was coming, and yesterday he didn't come running up for his feed like he normally does. Again, the same thing last night. It's his time. I called his owner, the vet and the trac hoe guy for burial. The vet and his owner are there now. He's not my horse, but he's been there for as long as I can remember. Swayback Sandy. He's had a good life, a long life. Poor Odie his pasture mate for all these years. I feel so sad and so silly, because he HAS had such a good life.

I know that we were talking about food, canning, storing, shortage of food in the future, etc., so I wanted to mention this (and some of you may have already heard this before from me). For those of you who like to save money (and I think that we all do), I have a few tips that I would like to share that I use when I go shopping. Most people don't know or don't take the time to look for the CLEARANCE SECTION in the stores. Most stores have this section. This is the first place that I go to when I go in the store. There is a section for non perishables and dairy. What happens is, when the expiration dates are getting close on dairy products, the stores will drastically reduce the price of milk, yogurt, cottage cheese puddings located in the dairy section, salsa, etc. Because if not, they will lose money. So instead of throwing all of this food out (and they can't ship it back), they lower the price and put it on clearance. That way, they at least make a dollar if that much. Perishables work similarly. I find jackpots when I buy that day's expired products. Products HAVE to have an expiration date on them but that doesn't mean that the food product is not good after that date. It's still good when you buy it in the store.

I stopped at Super 1 Foods this morning (not sure if you all have that store in your city)and I found a deal on 1/2 gallons of organic milk and another name brand milk. The expiration date on the milk is not until September 2 and that isn't until next week. There were (6) 1/2 gallons total, so I bought all of them. And for the milk, you can freeze milk and take it out when you need to. Just let it thaw out in the fridge a couple days. There were large tubes of cottage cheese (if you eat that) that was only $0.50. There was an 8 pack of rice pudding for $0.75. Yogurt was $0.25. And there were so many other sale items. So that is my strategy when I go shopping. Hope that you can use that tip on your next shopping trip!!!

This is a post on another thread on BYC that I posted a couple years ago about a shopping trip. This is just an example of what I find when I go to the grocery store.

Not sure if this was mentioned or not but when I pick up groceries, I always have my eye open for items that have an expiration date of that day's date or within the next day or 2. I will ask for the manager and bring to his attention that the product will expire on that day or the next day and ask for a reduced price on the item. They ALWAYS give me a reduced price. This is what I bought at reduced price on yesterday and ALL of the products were in good shape and of course still good for consumption.

6 bags of salad @ $0.25 each = $1.50
2 bags of grapes @ $0.25 each = $0.50
1 bag of apples @ $0.50
4 cantaloupe @ $0.25 each = $1.00
1 bag of grapefruit @ $0.25
2 gallons of Organic orange juice @ $0.75 each = $1.50
4 bottles of salad dressing @ $0.25 each = $1.00
2 medium size containers of yogurt @ $0.25 each = $0.50

TOTAL PRICE for all of this was $6.75

In addition, in store sale on liquid laundry detergent (29 loads) 45.4 oz - regular price $4.00 was on sale for $0.97. I stocked up on 20. All of this was only $26.75. I bought the kind that is free of dyes and perfumes because I have sensitive skin.

So keep an eye on expiration dates that are not way over the "use by" date. Many of these items are still good. The stores just want them off the shelves.

I sign up for my local store's emailed sales paper, so I get that week's sales paper emailed to me and I can take a look at the items on sale to see if there is anything that I can use. This way, I don't have to waste gas going to the store to check out the weekly sales. If any items are sold out, you can usually get a "rain check" slip and pick up those sale priced items on the next shopping trip.

Also, check to see if your store has a "Reduced Item" section/aisle specifically designed to have the store's reduced items in one designated location instead of placed on the shelf in each individual section. They have great reduced prices. Yesterday our store had packets of seasonigs, marinades, etc for $0.10 - jars of peanut butter for $0.80 - spray cans of insecticides for $0.50 - large cans of juice for $0.25.

Sometimes it just takes a few extra minutes to look but your pocket will thank you at the cash register.

I went to a local grocery store and there were 6 gallons of Organic Milk that were going to expire on that day. They were marked down from $6.00 a gallon to $1.00 a gallon. I bought all 6 gallons for only $6.00 total. I gave half of them to my older neighbor who is on a fixed income and who can't afford a lot. I froze 2 gallons and put 1 in the fridge. I buy a lot of day of expiration foods that are still good. This store will also have things like salsa, sour cream and other dairy products for $0.25 to $0.75. I always cash in on them. If you find a product that will expire on that day or the next day, just find the manager and let him know and ask him if you can get a discount. You will be surprised at the discounts he may give you.

So sorry to hear that. I am crying over here too. That has to hurt. I can't imaging how you feel. It is always sad to lose an animal/pet. Like you said, he lived a good life. He was loved and he loved you all back.
