"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I think if he makes a dish of that for all of us, I would help him catch those guineas.

I'm not sure if he wanted to share the recipe, or hope we forgot about his "guinea hunting".

Okay...so this may be just a bit off topic so I changed the recipe title...useful for those with 'harvested' culls etc.

Enjoy!!!

CHICKEN (HERITAGE LARGE FOWL) & DUMPLINGS CASSEROLE

The secret of this is not to stir anything. That's what makes your dumplings. When you dish it out, you have your dumplings on top.

INGREDIENTS:
2 chicken breasts, cooked and shredded

2 cups chicken broth

1/2 stick of butter
2 cups Bisquick (or any brand all purpose biscuit/baking box mix)
2 cups milk
1 can cream of chicken soup
3 teaspoons of chicken flavor granules (I use Wylers jarred)
1/2 teaspoon dried sage or poultry seasoning
1 teaspoon black pepper (or more to taste)
1/2 teaspoon of sea salt (or more to taste)

***can add some corn or peas or both if desired too**
***During the last 5 minutes of baking I've added grated parmesan cheese sometimes too***

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Layer 1 - In 9 x 13 casserole dish, melt 1/2 stick of butter. Spread shredded chicken over butter. Sprinkle black pepper and dried sage over this layer. Do not stir.

Layer 2 - In small bowl, mix milk and Bisquick. Slowly pour all over chicken. Do not stir.

Layer 3 - In medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups of chicken broth, chicken granules and soup. Once blended, slowly pour over the Bisquick layer. Do not Stir.

Bake casserole for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown
I'm teasing you about the guineas...however, the recipe does look good!!!

I bought my feed from a new place today. The name of the scratch was Home Grown. And the name of the layer pellets was Country Acres. It was a little more expensive, but I didn't know if it was top brands or the store was selling cheap for more. The pellets has no dust, yey. The scratch looked like it had a few little pieces of hay...if any of you are familiar with these brands, I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks!!!!!

The horses owner stopped by my house to talk. He's an older gentleman and was crying about Sandy. I suggested as an option for Odie (the 20ish horse). I would have the vet check him over, give him his shots, and an updated Coggins. After a "quarantine" period, if they were interested, I would bring Odie over to one of my pastures and put him with my old gelding (Star 24yrs...the BEST kids horse EVER!!) so that Odie would have some company and not be alone. I have NO interest in owning Odie, he is not rideable, I simply didn't want him to be lonely. The owner said that he and his wife would really like that idea, but he wasn't sure about his 30 or 40 yr old daughter, who I have NEVER met in 16 yrs...who I could stand right next to in Walmart and never know...who NEVER comes out to even look at the horses...

Did I mention she lives 15 minutes away?????????

He wasn't sure she would want Odie to be off the property.. AAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!! I told him if it helped she could stop by any time she wanted. I don't want the horse, if Odie comes here, it's simply more work for me. I just thought it was the right thing to offer....PEOPLE ARE STUPID!!!!

As I said before I grew up with horses. We also had a neighbor up the Rd. that had some too. Every now and then I would have to get up in the middle of the night an go get our three horses from the neighbors. They would sneak out for a visit. Sometimes her horses came to our house for a visit. It seemed to alway happen in the middle of the night. In the wild they live in herds. It could be a knee jurk reaction from the older man. Hopefully when he thinks it over he will change his mind. If I were in your situation I would handle this in 1 or 2 ways. One would be to do exactly What you told the owner. You said you never see them so I see no problem. If they stopped by I would just say she keeps getting out and coming over and I couldn't spend all my time bringing her back. Or number two is get the daughters phone number call her at inconvenient times saying your horse is out you need to come get her from my house and bring her home. During the call you could tell her of your offer to let her stay. I would bet she wouldn't have a problem with it after one or two calls! I get really upset when people don't do what's best for there animals. I'll say a little prayer tonight that the older man will think things over and do what's right for this horse. Good luck let us know what happens. P

Does any one know of someone with bees? We kept bee pre Katrina . Our hive was flooded and the bees swarmed out. We had just bought the super so we wouldn't have to rob the honey by hand . Doing everything by hand was hard work. Now we're ready to get bees again . It would be nice to find some that have swarmed where their unwanted I could get free bees and someone could get rid of them for free. The added plus of honey is no canning and honey doesn't go bad.

I'll post pics tomorrow of my raised beds. It was dark when I came back home. Plus tomorrow I only have to make out payroll then I'm off. P.

I know it I was just posting the recipe up in case some wanted another good looking chicken dish. I reckon its good sound good on paper/or in a bowl. I can't recall ever having any bad chicken 'n dumplings, some were better than others but all have been palatable. I know I won't hear the end of all that for a spell I'm sure.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness. I'm a little embarrassed, I don't usually rant so much. "Stupid and selfish" irritate me.
