"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

http://www.citygirlchickens.com/poultry_lice.html

This blog post has a couple of good pics of chicken lice if your interested. Icky.

Can you ID a snake from its skin??? I wonder if there is a website that has examples. I found a dead king snake the other day and today found a full length skin......a small one from a baby. I am going to put out some snake away this evening. But I am curious if this skin is from a baby king snake as well.....it looks pretty plain except for a darker line down the center of the back.

LemonMeringue thanks for the link. I've looked and looked, but I don't think the girls have lice. I'm more inclined to go with bad gnats, because we've been getting eaten alive outside at night. I will continue to check them. FULL body shiver when the word LICE came up!!!!
Thanks all.

The baby snake skin, in case anyone can tell what kind it its.

Probably a garter snake.
Hard to tell from skins, some clues if coloring is present but even the legnth of a snake is deceiving from a skin...it stretches. (usually 1/3 longer skin than actual snake.)
Garters eat bugs & small minnows n lil stuff. Most are striped down the back and have checkered bellies (probably not visable on skin?) They won't hurt you chickens, I actually caught one the other day tried to toss it in the woods, it came crawling back into the coop area and BAM my red sex link had a snack lol she wasted not a moment gobbling it up :/

I'm not sure what that is - maybe gnats or mosquito bites?
Right now, I'm leaning more toward gnats or mosquitoes. We are getting eaten alive outside lately. My poor girls have been flipped all around, and all but hung upside down while I check them. I just don't see any signs that there are lice or mites. My easter egger (Edna, and not one of the ones in the picture) had a small cut that almost looked like a tear in her comb. She has been a favorite lately of Horn Dog Harry (rooster). I had been considering keeping Harry, but if he's too rough, I will need to remove him.

Fingers crossed that it's not L*CE!!!

Happy weekend all!!!!

Morning everyone!

Darn chickens. We open the coop up at 6.... they glare at us like we're insane and go back to sleep until 8 every day. Hubby forgets to open it before leaving once and I don't open it up until 8 and the girls act like I'm a jerk for not opening the door sooner. Just can't win.

I find my boys to be the same way. During the week, you have to wake them up for school, however, come Saturday morning they are up bright and early!!!
