"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Update on my girls. They definitely have fowl pox. The wounded girl has it the most severely around her eyes. I'm topically treating them with hydrogen peroxide, and I've added Terramycin to their water in case of wet pox, but so far I haven't seen any signs of that. Unfortunately they seem worse now in the second to third week of it. Is that normal?

Any update?

My easter egger (Edna) laid her first egg last night!  It was Green!!  :celebrate   You'd think I'd done it I'm so excited (now that would really be news).

Hope everyone has a great MONDAY!  Saints play tonight!!!!!!:weee   (with clothes on of course)!

Congratulations. That is so cool. I'm still waiting on my first Amercauna egg. The other day one went in the box, turned around a few times, stood there a bit and walked out. That was so mean. They were 5 months old on Sept 20. So I'm hoping. And hoping it will be green or blue. I think their eggs won't be big bec their poop is like a worm. Not with worms and not runny, good poop but it comes out like a worm. The other girls are blobs. Nice poop talk. Lol.

No I said (in a round about way) "you can if you want to" LOL I don't one reason is I have literally hundreds of fowl here some I hardly ever see much less could catch. If you can't do all of them why bother you're not ridding/eliminating the entire place of it anyway, which is hard to do with wildlife bringing the stuff in every waking moment of the day. You have to do so every year too(annually) and my main reason is you will never ever will have immunity built up in a flock if you give them a shot every year. I prefer my flock to build natural immunity to every thing they may/WILL come into contact with. Folks don't realize what they bring in just from a trip to the feed store beside the wild birds that cover areas of miles and are in contact with the whole wide world.

Most breeders medicine cabinets contents consist of: a container of louse/mite powder and a hatchet. Mine, I do go so far as to have meds for coccidiosis for the youngun's here and do de-worm twice yearly at spring and fall. The rest is just good feed practices(routine/schedule), clean water daily, high vigor/healthy genetics in the flock. Only the strong survive just like they did a hundred years ago or out in the world Mother Nature provides them(survival of the fittest/natural selection) I don't have time to baby sit the weak or feeble .Must be able to stand on their own two feet here. Like breeds like!

good day all:)

Jeff

Thanks. That makes sense. Never thought of the feed store contamination, but that makes sense too, no different than visiting someone else's flock.

I still have the Winnie the Pooh reference point as well.  Maybe one day I will have to stop and think before I know exactly what you're talking about.
:/

I LOVE homemade applesauce!  Do you make yours on the stove or in a crockpot?  I've seen the crockpot recipes, but have never tried them.

The honey crisp apples are out.  They are my favorite!!!
Now, I'm going to have to make some applesauce...you had a really good idea!

Omg. Honey crisp are out??!!?? It's my favorite too. Yea!!! I can't wait to eat one.

Updates:

No sign of the Mama Guinea but yesterday afternoon I saw the other 4 guineas standing at the edge of the brush pile at the base of that dead pecan tree, staring at it. In the rain. They combined the soybeans Sat morning so the field is clear except for that one area, but it’s rained so much you can’t go out there or you’d sink to your neck in mud. But I haven’t given up hope yet that she’s in there sitting on a nest inside of that big hollow log, this week makes about 4 weeks since she disappeared.

The 2 chicks are female Cuckoo Marans & they have the cutest little feathered legs. They are in a brooder box in my utility room. The rest of the eggs were all quitters except for one that was full out rotten – you should’ve heard it pop when I touched it w/a stick (smart me, at least I didn’t get it on me)! Boy what a stink it made! All that mess is now cleaned up & I turned that nest box upside down so nobody can get in it. If I see one hen even THINK about being broody I swear I’ll put her in my freezer! I don’t want to ever go through this again. Trust me to have the one hen who had absolutely NO idea what to do w/her chicks after they hatched!

I candled the pea eggs Sat night & all were clears – no fertile ones – so they are also disposed of now & the bator packed up & back in storage until next year.

We’re all into interval training here. 1 minute fast on the treadmill/elliptical/stationary bike & then 2 minutes slow – you just get enough time to catch your breath when it’s time to pick up the pace again. I like it, makes the time go by really fast. Now we’re trying to convince the powers that be that we need a TV set we can watch while we’re exercising!

I like the idea of Zumba but I’m so clumsy I’d probably trip & break my neck.

LOVE Honeycrisp!
