"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I hope everyone has been having a great weekend! I managed to survive the homecoming events ;) The kids sure had fun! Today has been non stop. A great church sermon this morning. And my 3 helpers here helped me peel and cut up the 25lb box of sweet potatoes we got awhile back. I have a load of them in the pressure canner right not. Just plain water. I think I will do the next batch with a light syrup made with brown sugar and water. I got a big batch of tuna casserole made today. 4 containers of that popped into the freezer for easy weeknight meals. I still have watermelons butternut squash and a bunch more organizing in the kitchen. I have to put all these jars of canned food somewhere! Lol! Our lawn needs mowed and poor hubby has been tap, tap, tapping away at the computer all day doing school work. Oh well, the cooler weather will slow that grass down eventually!

Well, it seems that we may have broody lift off! I am excited but pretty much indecisive on what to do. We have fertile eggs from the bantam coop. And I have fertile eggs from the big hen coop. But the big hens eggs are in with the Cochin......who is a Bantam. Hmmm.......I wonder what some mutts from him and some of these big ladies would look like????? I also think I should remove the little Silkie roo from the bantam coop.....right? Also wondering if I should take a few eggs out of the nest. She has a LOT in there! 3 or 4 eggs would have been added after this pic was taken. I am going to make sure all the eggs are marked in the morning and take out any I think are too old. But that won't be but maybe 1 or 2 because I have already been tending to that. If I take out a few maybe I could add in a few from the larger hens if I go ahead and do it tomorrow morning. If I need correcting in any of this please feel free!!!

Well, after some heavy thinking, I have decided to process my excess Roos. I have never done this before, always sold or gave them away. I felt a little guilty separating them tonight, they just looked at me like..What the heck? I have 2 that I kept, who are starting to get bullied by said 4, so....put them in a pen separate from the flock. Hoping the two I kept will gain some "man points" now

Looks like I can replace the roof soon! Most of my renters refuse not to pay rent in some way and I refuse to accept rent from them until at least 2 weeks after the furlough is over. None know a thing about fixing anything but all are strong and offered to bring things up the ladder for me. That's all I need so we are going to work out 2 days in the schedule, lots of beer, and start working on it. Happy happy happy!!!

Good luck. It must be hard. I guess if I was going to I would do it like the YouTube video where she turns them upside down in her lap and talks to it until it goes calm and limp then does the deed and that chicken never moved or made a sound. But I know nothing about it, just a thought.

I'm going to watch that one day .I know when my dog was chasing mine it was screaming bloody murder with fear. Luckily I heard the commotion and I was able to get the dog inside. I don't think I could be a deed doer.:cd

Getting helpers for projects like that is awesome! Hope you all get it done fast and easy.

I think I may have watched the same video you refer to. Did she wear a pink scarf?

I watched that one, and like 5,000 others lol. We are going to do the chopping block method. I'm gonna hold while hubby chops... Saw the 2 nails to hold head while one pulls legs, one chops. Seems faster/less stressful.. On me anyway. :/
