"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thanks KilnChick. I haven't set a price for these yet: As of this point, any I get finished before the show are going to be in our auction or raffle. After we get past the show, I plan on working on these and calling them the Fleur de Feathers...lol. I have had two people ask to have ones made featuring their birds and choice of Fleur de Lis, so I guess I'll have to figure out a price sooner than later. I want to make them affordable, but worth doing at the same time.

I started ones for a Blue Ameraucana pullet, a pair of BB Red OEGB, Black Copper Marans Cockerel, and Dark Cornish pullet last night. I sure hope I can get at least one or two more finished in time. I also am doing a folk art Santa riding a rooster: Probably a New Hampshire or Welsummer. As if I really think I'll have time to do all that!
I would like one with my Serama. Maybe I should get back to painting again myself? Don't think I could do what you have with the this. Absolutely spectacular !!'nnn

I didn't know VULTURES would go after my chickens and ducks! I walked out just in time this morning to see one swooping down at them! And 7-8 of his *friends* in a tree waiting. They totally didn't care that I was there. Just sat there and gawked at me!!! Got to looking around and there were at least 8-10 across the road (way off) circling over something on the hunting lease/timber company land. No doubt something dead...probably what drew the ones to my yard.

Been contemplating buying a gun for predators. (Please, lets not debate this...) This is making me think it is time. :(

I don't think you'll find much objection to shooting chicken varmints here. I also have a rifle to protect my flock now.

You do know this is a state thread, right? We all have guns to protect much more than just the chickens. Heck, we even post pictures of what tried to get to our meal makers and lost the battle. You should have a pellet gun at the least. Things to keep in mind... How much kickback can you handle, are you looking for a rifle or a hand gun? Try not to get a revolver, they are not accurate for very far and are best used for close personal protection. The longer the barrel, the more accurate they are for longer distances. If you use anything with buckshot remember that it spreads to things close by. a .20 or .22 rifle is great for smaller animals, has both full lead and buckshot, low kickback, cheap gun and ammo, and accurate. It would be my suggestion for a starter protection gun. It however, will not protect you from something bigger (think size of deer or wild boar here). Good luck!

Exactly! !!! We all are packing heat on this thread. To be honest, you're probably NOT allowed on this thread if you aren't packing heat. Lol

And pics of dead predators are always a plus. You won't get a debate on this thread. We live in Louisiana.

My granddaughter and I helped with concessions at the chicken show. In my humble opinion this show has been a roaring success. Can't wait for next year. Congratulations to all the people in Gulf Coast that worked so hard and to the winners

No debate. Just buy it.

I was hoping to put more faces to the Lay-ers at the show, but didn't meet many. :(. Terri where were you? Pam? Anyone?

I'm not a big fan when it comes to chicken shows. All chickens look the same to me. Not really in to different breeds or their popularity. No biggie and would be boring to me. Kinda like you seen one you've seen them all. (No offense to anyone.) Baby chicks are more exciting to me. Would love to attend a turkey, pea, duck, sheep, goat or any other exotic animal show. Just my opinion.
