Is everyone getting their Thanksgiving meal ideas together? I'm getting several requests for people wanting ducks and geese. Last year grocery store price for a goose was $65.00. Not sure I could eat a goose though.

I usually just get a turkey since that is what is affordable.  They always have them for like 50cents a pound.  I am for sure in the mood for all of our favorites.  Smoked or Roasted Turkey, Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Gravy or Twice Baked, Sweet Potatoes, homemade Cranberry sauce, Cornbread stuffing, Green bean casserole,  (I just gained 5 lbs typing all that) Deviled Eggs(we use cream cheese in our filling, it ROCKS!!!), Pies!

And Hubby just said smoked Pork Butt!  As if the above wouldn't be enough

I saw Super1 had turkeys for $0.50 a lb. For small families who need a small turkey, this would be great. There was a turkey that was only $7.00. I am thinking about turkey and roasted duck, corn bread dressing, home made mac and cheese and home made biscuits.

[COLOR=333333]When we do Thanksgiving, different family members are responsible for different courses. I am always in charge of the desserts. I am not sure what is on the main menu this year, probably turkey but last year it was Turducken. [/COLOR]

The hay haul.

We had two hauls just like this one. We were able to use our neighbors bobcat to offload the hay from the trailer, but then had to break down the square bales and hand load them into the stall for storage. It was BACK BREAKING work!!! The round bales we store in a barn and move to the horse's run in sheds when needed. The round bales are the same hay as the square...just beautiful!

I'm sure it was hard work but you don't have to worry about hay for a LONG TIME! And you have horses that you are feeding the hay too right?

Good morning Layers. I think I rested so much this weekend, I may have bed sores.

It was a beautiful weekend this weekend. I wish it could be that way all the time. Although I did get some much needed rest in, I was still able to squeeze in a few other chores. This weekend I was able to clean the chicken house and replace all of the bedding. The girls really enjoy when they get fresh hay. With the price of hay so high these days, I was lucky to find a guy who bails his own hay and he sells it for $3.00 a square bale as opposed to the $7.50 bale of hay that is sold in the feed stores. With winter coming, I'll have to stock up. I bought 2 bales so that I could divide it up and look through it to make sure that they hay was good. The last bales of hay that I bought from a lady sworn to me she had the best hay this side of the Texas border. HOW WRONG SHE WAS! When I opened up the hay, there were sticks, twigs and all kinda other crap in there. I had to call her to let her know, so that she could stop bragging on her hay. She offered more bales of hay to replace the ones that she sold me. SERIOUSLY? More hay with twigs and sticks and crap in it? I think NOT! This guys hay looked PERFECT! I was very satisfied. The sheep and the goat tore it up, so if they are happy with the hay, then I am.

Got a call from a lady that said a deer was in her yard. Someone had hit it and broke it's leg and back. I felt so sorry for the deer. It was suffering and making loud noises. Processing the deer was a job.

My favorite store of all had a great clearance sale. I was able to get 11 cups of the Oikos yogurt for $0.25. I also bought a box of 8 cups of Yoplait yogurt for $2.00. Total price was $5.02 with tax. Looks like I"ll be having smoothies for a while.

A co-worker brought me a bag of bananas this morning that she had bought but the bananas had split open a bit and she didn't want them. I don't know why because they were still good.

The sheep seemed to enjoy the sweet potatoes that the veggie man bough for them. That's my first time seeing them eat sweet potatoes. Who knew.

Each trailer had 8 round bales and 16 pallets of square bales.

Wow. I am so humbled and privileged that you guys take my problems seriously and give me your advice and solutions. I'm due for a hay run too. One square bale which will last me a month. NOT the huge squares like those, just a tineey weeny regular bale. These fotos really make real for me the VAST difference between you and Julie and Jeff and others on this thread. Thanks so much for your patience and caring for super little guys like me.

And here are two of my rehab hens. When I got them each nail was over an inch long from life on wire. One has a broken beak from who knows what. They have been living it up in the sun and grass!

Trust me, I'm so new to chickens! I feel confident in my ability to care for my horses, however, when it comes to my chickens, I'm terrified that my lack of knowledge will cause me to lose another one! I have so much to learn and I am thankful for everyone's help when I have a question. I'm just a "city girl" that's found herself in the country! AND loving it!!

What a great looking "crew"! Keep us posted on "life with goats". Your Yamcha is just so handsome! I love his look. How many chickens do you have? You've probably said, but my brain is mush and I don't remember.
