"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I agree that our nations money isn't going to where it's suppose to - and much of it is going into pockets instead of where it is needed. You can't spend any money and know it's going to where it's suppose to. For example I know the Humane Society made generous campaigning donations during the election. Using money people donated to them to save animals. THAT "got my goat". If I knew the money would actually go to the betterment of its town and people, I wouldn't be as begrudged but as someone who lived there with friends that still live there, I have an inside view as to how they are treating their own citizens. Also I had a boss that played for the city more then once on the stage, and it is not a lot. My Uncle use to stream those lights that go across the road on Front Street. They pay less to put it together then you would think. Then they should.

I agree with you! I'm sure it was some lawyers idea a to squeeze more money out of the people they swear to serve. Charities are the same way the CEO's line there pockets They probably get more money then their cause. I don't give money to charities anymore after Sept.11.I will volunteer my time to help them. Or I can give directly like the military care packages . Something along those lines. THAT gets my goat too you know how I feel about animals!!!Pam

Do you want to know where the money from those heart-breaking commercials calling for donations to save pets is going:

Grand Total Spent on 2012 Federal Elections: $1,490,762

"We were surprised to learn that according to HSUS's publicly available tax return for 2008 (the most recent year for which data was available at the time), HSUS devoted less than one-half of one percent of its budget to directly funding hands-on pet shelters."

"So only four-fifths of one percent (0.80%) of the money HSUS collected in 2009—much of it in response to TV ads that begged for money to “save” dogs and cats—actually went to the community-based organizations doing that work. (HSUS runs a handful of “animal care centers,” but no dog or cat shelters and no pet adoption programs.)"

"It will surprise many of you to learn that the Humane Society of the United States isn’t primarily in the business of funding humane societies. HSUS has historically considered these “societies” to bepart of its “constituency,” but it’s not funding them with any sense of urgency. And in the meantime, HSUS’s $191 million endowment (part of which is invested in the stock market) continues to earn money hand over fist."

So All of that money people think they are giving to save starving, neglected or needy pets is pretty much going towards political agendas. They use sad videos to manipulate caring people into giving them money.

Those who really want to help should donate to local run rescues, and/or donate items they need. Food, Blankets, Toys, Shelter. A few hours of your time. It's just easier to agree to pay $20 a month or whatever they choose and feel that they are making a difference for animals. If people started looking into where their money actually went - the world would riot.

To change the subject I made a second batch of soap it came out great . Trying to get two more done for Christmas gifts. Its fun to make your own blend of scents. I got a good review from my harshest critic Ron. It really helped his dry skin. If anyone is on the fence about doing it take the plunge. The quality of soap from the store to making your own well their is no comparison. Pam

I think lobbying should be outlawed. Along with political donations and campaign funds should be done away with. What started out as being a public servant has turned into working the system to get what you can no matter what the cost to the people they swear to serve

We are getting a live tree this year and we have yet to get it. Need to do that SOON. No lights either, some presents and most wrapped but not at all done for the season. When you are a kid, you can't wait for Christmas! As an adult I wish I could push it back another month.

I can attest that Baton Rouge Yorkie Haven's money goes to the care and adoption of pets. That's were I adopted Quincy and became close friends with his former foster mom. They don't have a shelter, it is all foster homes. They treat all dogs medically for any and all problems. They are devoted and loving. They often pay out of their pockets if there are no funds and they do not receive any pay for what they do. It is motivated by love. Any donations to Baton Rouge Yorkie Haven are for pure good for abandoned and neglected dogs. And, it is 100% no kill. I know all this first hand.

I agree. And, I wish the LA Supreme Court would go back to the days when lawyer ads were not allowed. Lawyer ads changed everything from honorable to greedy sleazy.

Quote: Red Stick German Shepherd Rescue in Baton Rouge is a dedicated group of people also. I adopted my German Shepherd from them. They work with the shelter and most of the shepherds that come through (a stunning amount) are fostered ASAP. Local Rescues are a much better way to donate money to animals in need.

You know what really bothers me? I have been following this story of two emaciated dogs rescue and recovery on Facebook, and even offered to donate to help with their recovery but all donations were turned down. The rescuer said she only wanted to educate others on helping emaciated dogs and did not need funds or to make money on it. Steadily they recovered into filled out happy dogs. Then a few days ago is a post saying that She wouldn't take any donations herself, but donations needed to be sent to a vet immediately to spay and neuter the two dogs or she was going to put them down.
ep.gif
She went through the trouble of saving them and sharing their story to be willing to put them down so quickly and easily?!!!! She explained to someone's what the %^&$ with saying she'd rather kill them then let them have puppies. I get the no breeding thing but there are other freaking options! Foster one out to keep them separate, or SOMETHING! If I saved those dogs, I would go hungry to get one fixed quickly if I had to instead of making them healthy and happy just to kill them.
