"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

On a lighter note I assume all of you have seen the chicken snow-man on the picture with the main articles with the "Have you ever had a winter broody?" question. Earlier today my little girl watched me over my shoulder while on BYC, noticed it, and asked "Mommy, is that snow or is that a chicken?" Me: "Honey it's a chicken made out of snow." Her eyes went wider and she looked at me with this genuinely baffled look and whispered "How is that possible?!" It was just too cute and funny. One day we will have to vacation where she can play in real snow.

Just found this group of LA-yers, so I figured I would jump in. I have had chickens for 2 years now and really enjoy them. I have BR, a welsummer, RIR, Americauna, Wyandottes, and a bantam who is broody, actually setting now. Have a gorgeous Black Australorp roo too. I am near Broussard, LA, and would like to network with other chicken folks in the Lafayette/New Iberia/Broussard/Youngsville area. I'd be glad to share some eggs or trade some birds when my flock grows too big. Anybody in south central LA out there?

Welcome to BYC.

I live in Opelousas. Nice to meet you. :frow

Good morning all,
I have a quick question? My little mini yorkie dog roughed up my hen yesterday & I noticed the hen now walks with a limp. While I'm no vet, I did inspect her leg & didn't see any real damage, no bite marks, scratches anything to indicate being bite on her leg. What I did see though was that the toe on the outside part of her foot seemed to be slightly bent out of shape, maybe it could be broken I'm not sure. All that explaining to ask this, should I take her to the vet or is a chicken toe like a human toe, not much can be done about a hurt toe???

It the toe is bent out of shape, you can splint it like this. I use pipe cleaner to splint.
